RE: The Most Effective Meetings
Mr. @RojoLoco, no I'm not an expert. I'm expressing my thoughts as you are. I think what I'm sharing stems from a place of:
Wisdom is similar to expert decision-making skills, but it's not the same as being an expert:In fact:
Wisdom is the ability to use knowledge, experience, and judgment to make good decisions in complex and uncertain situations. It involves understanding how to regulate your feelings and motivations to achieve your goals.Everyone is going through a transition in life...a new chapter. To some, this new chapter is a blessing and to others a fearful reality. A wake up call to pivot in life. With that said, the sanity, the emotional conflict and life burden of a team member is the business of a company. Men always say they're fine when they're not. It can affect their performance at work. Whomever is leading a meeting should include a roll call on everyone's health. Like I stated in my previous post...Mission, Men and then yourself. Whether you agree or not, I stand by it.
Isn't it funny how we may disagree about being there for someone until we're the someone that needs the help?

RE: HELLO CYBER SECURITY WORLD
@EddieJennings thank you so much for your valid feedback. I very much agree with you about chasing the skills and not the certs. However, companies, in the cyber world, wont take you serious, if you can't produce a degree or a cert to show.
I'm all for the skills. At the time I wasn't aware of the many different levels of CyberSec. Now that I'm aware, I know what direction I would like to go to gain the skills and the cert to get my job. This is why I wanted to know if there is anyone out there, who's already in the field, could provide some feedback, study guides...etc.
Again, thanks for your input Eddie. Your suggestion is already in play.

HELLO CYBER SECURITY WORLD
W'sup everyone and Merry Christmas. I'm about to start my journey into the Cybersec world. I started out studying for Fortinet firewall cert, I got my FCA, for the professional level...I decided to head into the FCP, Public Cloud Security.
In doing my research, I came to understand that FCP is proprietary. Meaning that I can only be valuable to companies with Fortinet products. Then I discovered CCSP. I was thinking this, Fortinet FCP, was that, CCSP. But THIS wasn't THAT. lol! As I kept researching, I then discovered CISSP. OMGness!! It never stops. I was blown away to find out that CISSP is CCSP and more. So now I have made up my mind to pursue both CISSP and CCSP. I read that CCSP is a nice compliment to CISSP even though most of CCSP information overlaps with some of CISSP.
At first I was a bit nervous. I didn't know how I was going to afford the study materials or where to start. But then I came across some DOPE resources for guidance. Study groups and free courses!! Here are some sites I found:
Skool
Cyber Seek (it has a map of all the cyber jobs in demand in the USA)
CISSP on YouTube (Providing a full free course in CISSP. God is good!)Did you know if you have a library card that you can have free access to Linkedin Learning (formally known as Lynda com) catalogue.
If anyone in Cyber Security have any other cool resources to share, please do. I haven't even taken the exam yet and I feel so blessed. Wish me luck!
Oh! If anyone is starting their journey in Cyber Security, hit me up. Let's become study partners.
If any Cyber Security professional care to mentor someone, hit me up. I could use an Obi-Wan Kenobi. lol!
To all who has started and or thinking about starting...g'luck. May my lil resources be of some help to you.
Each one, Teach one!

RE: The Most Effective Meetings
Although I understand where you both are coming from. The thing is that there is always something to talk about. I know you're expert in computing, but that isn't the only thing that keeps the wheels of a company oiled.
Based on business alone, there's a POV of:
How one is being effected psychologically
How one is being effected emotionally
How one is being effected physically
Where we at with our team energy
Team effort to work with one another
How to strengthen our weakness
Team building
Career enhancingStrong men open up, weak men stay closed up, isolated and Fk up the progress of growth. Sometimes the issues aren't technical or what you can see with your eyes, but the ones you can sense via energy. Suicide rate for men has risen higher than ever before. 75% of it is work related. A person's outer appearance doesn't always represent their inner appearance.
All relationships are like a business. If you only focus on ONE aspect of the business, the other part of your business will crumble. Therefore, role call from every aspect...i.e...emotional, physical, psychological, socially, individually and as a team is very important. In the military, our motto was:
Mission
Men
and SelfAs a team, we should all think about our mission and how we could help one another. As a leader, afterwards, you think about the men you're leading. And as a leader, once the top two tiers has been taken care of, you think about yourself.
So to say that there isn't anything to talk about is speaking with from an individual pov to brush off issues as a team or as an individual to deal with our person demons alone.
If you don't speak up, you can't complain when ish hit the fan and or you feel as if your world is crumbling all around you. People can't help you if you're breaking your neck to protect the silent killer aka your inner demons.

@Pete-S said in Captive Portal/Splash Screen/Better Alternative:
He or his guests doesn't need to type in anything.
Most phones for example support qr codes for ssid & pwd. There are many sites that can generate the right qr code for him to print out.
For example https://wifiqrcode.com
Hey Pete. I wish I knew you well enough to put you on my Christmas list. That idea was the BOMB! My bad for those who are not hip to that term. It was a great idea.
I also talked him into getting a Unifi Dream Router (UDR). With the UDR you don't need to buy extra gear. It's a 4 in one. It's a router, switch, AP and controller. There's another one called Unifi Dream Machine (UDM). It's a 3 in 1. It's a switch, AP and Controller. Both can create a captive portal / splash screen.
Here's a side by side comparison:
If anyone else has any cool ideas like Pete, please share. I'm open to learning and sharing information.
If anyone is interested, below are setup video of both products.
Unifi:
UDR - Router
UDM - MachineIn the mean time, MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Unifi has a captive portal in the controller,..
Oh,.. can’t be troubled to type a SSID, then dealing with a controller or really ANY captive portal option will likely be more than he wants to deal with..
Thanks for the suggestion gjacobse. I thought of Unifi as well, but once again, it's extra gear. This task is annoying.

Captive Portal/Splash Screen/Better Alternative
I have a client that is requesting a captive portal for his home. He's not interested in buying extra gear or software subscription. I looked into DD-WRT, but they have 3rd parties that charge for services.
My client has a Asus RT-AX1800S router. I spoke to Asus and they no longer support captive portals on their routers anymore. He wants simplicity, keep his family network separate and wants to avoid having guess come to him for pwds.
As an alternative, I mentioned how he can hide the family SSID while exposing the guest SSID for them to connect to. His response, what if a family member gets a new device. I informed him at bare minimum he would have to only input the network information in once. Once to him is even an headache.
Any ideas anyone?
In advanced, thank you for your time and efforts.

COLLISION | Global Tech Conference
I was Curious if anyone actually heard about COLLISION and planning on going. There's one popping off in 2023 as well. It's suppose to be very big.
If so, let me know. Maybe we could link up to say hello.

Once again, stepping into the role of Network Admin. I'm curious to know what are the new ideas / tools of today or is the daily tasks still the same. Any resources are welcome. Whenever I do a job, I'm passionate about it and would like to show my best.
What are some great free tools out there? What are some bare necessity tools you think an Admin for today's network world should have in their bag of network weapons?
Thank you for your time, input and tips,
Mr. Wright. Are you asking us how to do your new job?
Negative @Obsolesce. I'm asking exactly what I'm asking. I'm curious about new tools and if there are any new best Practice.
Besides, even if I or anyone was asking that, it is my understanding that this site is about building, encouraging and empowering one another in the field of IT.
Trying to make one look bad or expose someone's weaknesses as oppose to just either contributing to the question or not saying anything at all is NOT Best Practice for positive communication.

What are some
You should always have good old WireSHark, nmap included and a great network scanner.
@dbeato what do you use for a network scanner? I use Advanced IP Scanner.

RE: Network Admins: What are your daily BEST PRACTICE
A couple of years ago I came across these guys in Europe who had advertised on Kickstart. They created this device that acts as a Fluke network device, but you use you mobile phone. It's called "Pockethernet".
It's amazing!

I'm open to all of the above. I know technology changes like the weather, therefore I'm interested in knowing what's new out there.

RE: Lenovo Bypass BIOS Options
@Dashrender said in Lenovo Bypass BIOS Options:
Are you setting different admin passwords on each laptop you setup? Assuming so, why aren't you recording that somewhere?
I have different groups of laptops that are going to different dept. to Execs. Someone mixed two of the stacks together and I couldn't recall all the pwd for them.
That's when I decided to just use a Admin Key to bypass the login and reset the pwd accordingly.
However, I was met with a challenge to enter the bios to boot from the USB.
It's all good now. Once again, thank you to all!

RE: Lenovo Bypass BIOS Options
Gentlemen thank you for all of your help. For some reason, continuing to tap of the F# key for results wasn't working. This particular laptop prefer for you to hold down the F key. Laptops with an attitude.

Yea, that didn't work either.
Thanks Obsolesce. Then it must be coming out of sleep mode. Try a reboot, then hitting F12.
I've tried that as well. I've tried hard shutdown and restart from the login screen.
When starting up I just see the dots rotating in a circle, the screen turns blue and asking you to "Please wait a moment" and then...BOMB...I'm on the login screen.
As stated in the title, the options to go to the bios are bypassed. I'm really trying to avoid formatting this drive.

Lenovo Bypass BIOS Options
Hello everyone. Thank you for your time, any suggestions and help if you can offer any.
I'm setting up a lot of laptops at the office. As I prep them, I set them to the side to let them do it's unattend setup. However, after being set to the side for so long, I may have forgot the password that I put on one of them. I'm trying to use a Admin bypass key. I need to get into the bios so I may select to boot from USB. I've tried (FN +) F2, F8, F10, F12, ENTER and Delete. Nothing works! It keeps going straight to the login screen. When I try to reset password, it's asking me for security questions that I don't recall setting up.
Most of Google's lead tells you to log in then go to settings. I can't log in. Or the scenario doesn't relate to what I'm doing.
I looked up the warranty and it ended months ago.
I'm stuck with a thick question mark in my head.
Is there an Lenovo hero out there to save me?

@JasGot said in A LIFE AND FATHER'S ISSUES, NOT TECH:
@MrWright4hire
I feel for you. I am a father. But you have to understand, you were not clear or accurate in your post.Let me explain why I was suspect by your post.
-
This statement "Enclosed, please find the LINK that explains some of the issues I'm facing and what I would like to achieve globally." Is less than accurate in the first half and unclear/confusing in the second half. The link said LINK, not a verbose description of the link. The link goes to a shortened URL, one I did not recognize. "achieve globally"? I thought you were looking to advance your cause not ask for money.
-
I did not recognize your name.
-
I clicked on your profile link, and see that you have posts, reputation, and have been a member since 2014. This is good.
-
But then I looked at the URL in your profile
HTTP://WWW.WRIGHTIT.ORG
which of course doesn't work. It doesn't matter if this is a typo, or the faults of the BB software, in today's cyber attack age, careful internet users would never click that link from their daily driver.
-
So even though I have no reason to have ill feelings toward you, and as a father, I do feel for you; I was very suspect.
-
Your post link and profile URL lends itself to be possible spam/click bait.
So, no offense intended, I wish you well and success for your son.
I can honestly say, had I been given a more clear understand and been informed in advance you were looking for assistance to fund your cause, I would have contributed without hesitation. I may still choose to contribute, but all of this could have been avoided with clarity.JasGot now that I read how you so eloquently explained you and others position on the matter, I do apologize. I also want to apologize to Mango. Although I was given the go ahead, It wasn't my intention to give them a bad impression of any of their members.
I had just finished court and despite of all what the judge said about how it's only right for me to be in my son's life, her lawyer still writing up motions that shows other wise. As much as I do need funds for a representative. I equally want to bring awareness to the cause. There are soo much pain in father groups on social media. Should I be blessed to get custody of my boy, I will not give up on trying to figure out a way to help future parents, better yet, the kids who miss their mommy or daddy due to some stupid ish. We have to do better for our baby's sake.
Once again to all, with the exeption of the idiots. I do apologize. I wasn't thinking clearly. I was focusing on savign my son, other hurt parent and possibly saving other kids.
Even though I'm leaving my post up, JasGot I hope you and the others can f'give me. I apologize for not seeing it you guys way.
