@360col upgrade storage directly in the user account rather than from the admin console to save yourself a considerable amount. A 1TB upgrade within the user account is $9.99/mo compared to $89.00/mo.

RE: Best practices for helpdesk portal options for end user
Unless you need to route different issues to different teams, don't have the user select anything. Make it as easy for them as possible to submit an issue. You can use these categories on the back end if you want to so you can have some reporting info.

RE: File Server Upgrade Options
@scottalanmiller wow, supermicro has some impressive chassis. but ohh boy, their website design though....
perhaps something like the 24-bay, 4u SC846BE1C-R1K28B
do they offer pre-sales support or its via a reseller typically?

RE: File Server Upgrade Options
@coliver expect to run out of storage in march. @scottalanmiller the raid 6 or 60 does seem like the most cost conscious option.

File Server Upgrade Options
I posted over on SW but wanted to get the mango input too
https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2054391-file-server-upgrade-optionsI'm looking for some views and opinions on how to upgrade, change, or replace our existing file server setup to accommodate the imminent capacity limitation that will be reached soon. Use case is storing and editing of video files of around 2-4GB in size currently growing as more 4/6k content is used.
Initial thoughts are go with something like a Dell R730xd or HP DL180 but I'm worried that capacity constraints on these won't allow me to go much past current storage capacity at RAID10. Then use the current DS316JS as DAS on this new unit.
Current Setup
Mac Pro (mid 2012) running macOS 10.12.5, 24GB, 2x 2.4GHz Xeon (no comments needed, we're moving forward)
A DS316JS with 2 equal sets of RAID5 in a 8 x 6TB config (same as above)
Connected via a Areca ARC-1883x RAID Card
Networked with a 6 port 1 Gbps NIC
Backed up to Backblaze ($5/mo)Goals
Run a 'proper' storage server OS
Migrate to more reliable RAID configuration
Upgrade storage capacity (expect to run out in March 2018)
Backup dataSupport 6k video editing across a team of 12
Adding 10Gbps to server
Adding 10Gbps switch
Adding 10Gbps to clientsConstraints
Cost - we need to keep costs as low as possible- leverage existing DS316JS and drives as much as possible
- keeping backup with Backblaze would be a key cost savings

Mac Mini as ISO Library for Xenserver
Has anyone been able to get a mac mini (running server) to act as a host for xenserver iso's?
The smb share has failed entirely
I managed to get xenserver to see and add the nfs share but the VMs are failing to attach to itmy nfs share is configured in /etc/exports as
/share/iso -maproot=root:wheel -network 10.70.0.0 -mask 255.255.252.0
I also tried
/share/iso -mapall=501 -network 10.70.0.0 -mask 255.255.252.0

RE: Need a Good Bottle of Scotch
@s.hackleman said in Need a Good Bottle of Scotch:
@thanksajdotcom That is good, but you you find that Smokey, you may want to avoid anything that says Islay on it.
Just about to order a bottle of the Caol Ila 18 ( @Grey ) for what is turning into our weekly whisky evening at the office.

RE: Need a Good Bottle of Scotch
@thwr the boxes on the left are The Glencairn Glass from Stölzle. Not sure what you mean by imported to the US though, they are all in the UK from the UK.

@thanksajdotcom nice suggestion. I went and picked up one along with a few others this week.

RE: No 2 step verification for a cloud based email backup/archival solution!
2fa is on their 2017 roadmap. I'd much rather see SAML support though.
Would be nice to monitor who has set up a password login. I have never used Backupify u/p though and always rely on Google authentication which you can enforce 2fa on.

RE: Photo storage -Flickr vs Google photos vs ?
If you're using Google Photos, instead of using your gmail.com account you use G Suite Business and get all the domain features plus the 1TB of storage for the same price. When you need more storage add via personal storage in Drive instead of via the domain which is 10xthe cost.

RE: google mail stored inside the USA? others?
There's also comprehensive data storage for Russian customers, allowing you to control via OU which staff data goes to servers located in Russia.

RE: google mail stored inside the USA? others?
It's possible with Google. I know Genentech/Roche has all their G Suite data running and stored in Switzerland for example due to their strict regulatory requirements.

RE: Looking to buy a NAS to store graphics files long-term.
Or look at putting in smaller local storage server just for frequently used data and connect to AWS Storage Gateway using a Cached Volume architecture.
Gives you fast local access to data and scalability to grow to any size and then put policies on data in S3 to move to glacier or purge.
