Is anyone else in the "No way am I giving Disney money for the new Star Wars movie." (can't remember the name), and also "I'm looking forward to Mandalorian" dichotomy?

RE: Datto AP60
Y'all are being pretty aggressive with @WrCombs today. Some of the ways that things have been communicated today in various threads I wouldn't tolerate in a professional environment, and others that just aren't terribly kind. Just my opinion. Do with it what you will.

Office 365 Business Premium which is the < 300 user equivalent to the E3 license is $3/u/m which is less than the pricing for Zoho's Docs (assuming more than 5 users).
Zoho Docs is actually $1. But they don't advertise it. It's included with email believe it or not.
In our $1 we get Zoho Mail, Cliq (IM), Connect (up to 25 users, that's their Yammer equiv), Docs, Writer, Sheets, Show, Notepad, and a few other little pieces. It's actually pretty amazing how much is included. And if we go over 25 users and want to keep Connect, it's just $1 more for $2 total.
So why is the information on their site so different?

Office 365 has plans for non-profits that are super cheap. like $5/u/m cheap with full blown Office local. without office might be $1/u/m.
That's cheap, but still more expensive than Zoho at full price, which we've found to actually be a better product. So $1/u/m for the $5 O365 products!
I'm guessing that you and @Dashrender are talking about different feature sets. Office 365 Business Essentials, which is comparable to Zoho email and Zoho Docs is free for non-profits, and Office 365 A1 (the education equivalent) is also free. Office 365 Business Premium which is the < 300 user equivalent to the E3 license is $3/u/m which is less than the pricing for Zoho's Docs (assuming more than 5 users).

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Just finished helping another department with an interview.
I think they need to add, "Candidate must be able to talk at least 20 words per minute".
I almost fell asleep listening to this person. -
RE: Looking for Career Advice
Why would you stay? What do you have to lose if you start looking?
Most of my reluctance to leave a bad job has come from two places, not feeling like I have enough to invest in looking, and fear of rejection. I don't know if those two apply to you at all, but I'm going to address them anyway :). To the first, right now you are probably unhappy and stressed out because of all of the reasons you outlined above. If you can reduce some of the things that contribute to that you will be a better person outside of work. Taking some time now to invest is worth the return.
However this is where the latter has stepped in for me in the past. There is no "4 easy steps to over coming the fear or rejection". If you go looking for another job you will get rejected. Maybe quite a few times (unemployed for 18 months with hundreds of applications for me). The reality is that if you don't try, apply, interview you won't be any better off. At some point you have to decide if you are worth taking a chance on and do it.
On the positive side, you already have a job that is paying your bills (maybe not well, but on some level enough). This means you can go into interviews knowing that you can afford to turn them down. You have power in the process. You control whether or not you take the job. If it feels weird, it probably is. If something feels off, it probably is. Move on. There is too much drama in the world that you can't fix to take a job where you can't avoid said drama.

Evaluating personal task management tools. Ones that are still on the table:
- ClickUp
- Trello
- Asana
- Notion
I'm a little annoyed that Microsoft removed the capability for personal plans in Planner.

RE: What Are You Watching Now
I've been watching The Orville. I never thought I would enjoy an episodic series again, but I keep coming back to it.

RE: Helping others understand if their question really needs an answer
I've done this to myself before as a boss. I've started to ask a question because I'm curious, and tell someone to start doing some tasks to satisfy my curiosity. Then, as I realize that there is no value returned in what I'm asking I have to back track and take it all back.

Microsoft doesn’t think Windows is important anymore: It’s all about apps and services
'“The operating system is no longer the most important layer for us,” was the message from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella yesterday.'

I don't know if it supports voice, but Mattermost is a direct Slack competitor that is OSS and has a free community version.

Hmm, that has potential. I might give that a go.

RE: Tracking Tasks
@scottalanmiller said in Tracking Tasks:
So our needs for this is pretty minor, but we use Zoho Connect and Zoho Mail (which has a tasks system) for this since we are a Zoho shop. The most popular tool with our customers for this is Jira.
I've worked with JIRA, and it is oriented heavily around software development. They've bolted on some non development task tracking, but it isn't well done like most bolted on solutions.
Migrating email solutions isn't an option at this point

Tracking Tasks
Re: What are you using to track daily tasks?
So rather than necro-ing the above post I decided to spawn a fresh thread.
Now that I'm no longer in a technical role I am finding that I need something more than a ticketing system to track what I have going on.
Here is my incomplete list that I started to put together today in Excel just so I would have it somewhere (details removed):
Position change for staff member (x3)
Pay increase for staff member
SysAid Project Management
Techshare
AppLauncher Replacement
Vmware Horizon
DEP/MDM
QPA
Core34
FCTV MacBook
Transition staff member to Full time
Personnel issue
Personnel Development (x6)
Helpdesk Surveys
Broadband SysAid
Adobe Account Transition
Software Management/LicensingI'd like to be able to track progress on some of these and potentially link to documentation or email. I'm pretty early on in the process of sorting this out since tracking stuff in email has been sufficient up until now.

@batman said in SpiceWorld 2019 Events, Plans, Meetups:
@scottalanmiller did they announce the end of future SpiceWorld events or if the Spiceworks applications will still exist now that the community is the only thing ZDNet wants?
They are selling tickets for SW2020, so presumably not. The blog post from the keynote (I think) makes it sound like they are going to double down on the reasons for selling to ZD that people objected to, but I might be reading too much between the lines.

Got my copy of Freespace 2 last night and started looking into the Source Code Project, since I've read that it adds quite a bit more life to the game.
My only issue now is that I no longer own a joystick and I can't stand trying to play games using keyboard and mouse for flight controls. Might be time to look at purchasing one...
I'd forgotten about that. One of the really nice ones if you're into the story is that they ported FS1 into the FS2 engine, so you can play through that campaign without having to track down a copy of FS1.
