@wrx7m said in Color Laser Printer - Recommendations, Please:
I have an old Brother 4150 CDN color laser printer that is used by about 20 people. I am estimating that it does about 15,000 pages a month. The toner likes to leak out of the sides by the rollers and contaminate the rest of the rollers and ultimately the pages. So, I am looking for a decent color print-only replacement.
I know HP printers aren't what they used to be. Are the "Enterprise" printers any good?
What are you using (or would you use) in this scenario?
Retire some of the people. What reason would those people have for printing an average of 25 color pages every day? Not being helpful at all (sorry), I was just blown away by the volume.
My best color experience was with the OfficeJet Pro x line. Very fast, way better color than a laser, and not much more expensive than laser to operate: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-officejet-pro-x576dw-multifunction-printer.

I can understand where you're coming from @beta. I work for a government contractor, and one of our compliance points requires that we use an IDS/IDP on our edge. It isn't ideal, but it is a reality when you're working for people that operate on checklists rather than what is actually secure.

Is there a way to incorporate an article/blog portion in addition to the discussion threads? It seems difficult to find things here overall, and there is some very good information that is harder to locate/sift through since it isn't distilled down to a how-to/article.
That's a major problem here. We had some very good discussions in the past, but sometimes it just seems that information vanishes into void. NodeBB features a great search function and content tagging, but that's only half of what could be needed.
What about a big "Community best practices" project. We could start to work out best practices based on repetitive topics, for example. How to create users? How to I setup XYZ. How to enable AD Recycle Bin... There's so much that could be collected.
Community Knowledgebase?
Maybe not just a knowledgebase but everything the average SMB admin could need.
We could tag a bunch of threads something specific for that and work on it collectively
I think the threads are great - for discussions. But what if we compile what we talked about into small how to's and best practices?
For example all the "Set up <software> on <OS>" topics. If those were not buried in a discussion and had the means to notify subscribers it would make them much easier to find and refer to instead of, "Here is the thread. Make sure you follow the steps in comments 8, 14, 89 since they're critical to making the first script work."
Going back to a post I had up here about restoring a domain trust on a CA (which I was never able to successfully perform), there are some lingering issues. In particular my DCs were issued certs by the now defunct CA. I do not have a way to revoke those certs that I can find (perhaps using certutil...hmm). Any suggestions on how to get my DCs to stop using the certs pointed at the old CA so that they can autoenroll using the new CA?
I'd love to go back there, but not for a marathon. Good luck @Joy!
I am attempting to switch our internal web services over to https and have it centrally managed and trusted. I had opted to use ADCS for this since we are running AD.
Have any of you done this? If so, what documentation did you use? I'm using https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/jeffbutte/2016/12/16/236/, but I haven't been able to get the CSR to complete.
It appears that communication between the test server and the CA is fine, and the CA is issuing certificates. Here are the errors I'm getting:
sscep: finding attribute pkiStatus
sscep: allocating 1 bytes for attribute
sscep: pkistatus: FAILURE
sscep: finding attribute failInfo
sscep: allocating 1 bytes for attribute
sscep: reason: Transaction not permitted or supported
sscep: illegal size of payload
Any thoughts or questions?

Best part is, if the machine is logged in, this will bypass filevault.
I've started to poke around looking for alternatives to Facebook. It is a hard sell to tell people to get off without having a good alternative. Have any of you tried anything else that might replace it, or the parts of it that you use? I looked a little bit at Vero (https://www.vero.co), and it looks promising since they are subscription based. However that is a hard sell still. Thoughts?
@mike-davis said in question on security form:
I'm filling out a form for a government agency and it has the question below. Does this look like VLANS? I'm trying to figure out what they are looking for.
CONTROL#12 - BOUNDARY DEFENSE
Detect/prevent/correct the flow of information transferring networks of different trust levels with a focus on security-damaging data.
Most government security controls are based on NIST Special Publication 800-53 (http://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/SpecialPublications/NIST.SP.800-53r4.pdf). There is some guidance within that document itself to define what they're referring to with the control.
Just a note for the people stating "don't use Facebook", the initial point of the thread was not to debate the merits of Facebook in particular or social media in general. It was to discuss options to recommend to people that are using Facebook to help them get off of it and on to something else where they are not the product. Telling them to just stop using it would be like recommending people stop using a smartphone. You have to provide an alternative, not just a negative, hence the discussion.

For consumer level backup, use consumer level tools. If your family just needs backup of their documents and pictures why not just use any one of the innumerably free consumer products, Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox, etc.?

I don't support family computers more than the quick fixes I do when I'm there or in emergencies.
Eh... I suppose. I think it would be easier to restore a family members files from anywhere, whenever than having to be on site..
Yeah, I don't offer that service to family members. It is all best effort support for me.

Here is the CTSLabs "Proof of Concept" video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrhVhFHTe9o. I think they're trying to demonstrate that they can flash the UEFI with a BIOS whose hash doesn't match a valid one. I'm not entirely sure. They lost a ton of credibility when they stated that a typical way for an attacker to hack a server is using the BUILTIN\Administrator account and then copy over the BIOS file to the C$.

It sounds like Mr. Sneath is implying that because Microsoft is moving away from Windows as the core of its business that this is a bad strategy. It sounds more reactionary than an opinion built on current or trending market understanding. The PC (and Windows as a subset of that market) is only continuing to lose market share in both consumer and enterprise spaces. It seems that it would be reckless to the point of foolishness for Microsoft to continue to make Windows the core of its business.
