@scottalanmiller Ok whats like your minimum for any position? Is that better lol

The various NTG ventures have staff in many countries that I am aware of.

In some of those, an extremely low rate when listed in USD is likely their pay. But in their country, they are likely paid better than average.

That is at least what @scottalanmiller has insinuated multiple times without ever giving specifics.

Ok thanks for the info. He said the same to me.

    • RE: How to hide a network printer

@Dashrender said in How to hide a network printer:

The printers are broadcasting, or otherwise making their presence known. You need to look at the printer itself and see if you can turn it off.

Now that said, many printers don't have local users/permissions - so once someone finds the IP to the device, they can still add it manually.

To answer the OP - If there are no users/passwords to allow printing on the printer, then no, there is no real way you can prevent people from printing to it, assuming they have the ability to install a compatible driver.

Removing admin rights and also removing the user's ability to install printers (group or local policy)

Yeah I'm not sure how his is setup differently than ours but it must be. The only way for a user here to install another printer would be knowing its IP address, and they dont. Theres no broadcasting that I can tell so maybe thats the issue to look at. I don't do anything with AD either, so my printers are just out of box. I set their IP to what I want it as and assign user to it that I want. I don't use dhcp.

@siringo I want to try this one. I watched reruns of the original when I was a kid and loved it. Nothing like that on tv anymore. I know change is inevitable, but...I hate change lol

Setting up a few new users, two new hires yesterday.

Lots of onboarding going on here. One new hire is in his notice period with previous employer and got his desk phone delivered yesterday. And we hired two more yesterday, so gotta get phones moving for them now!

what kind of pay do you start people at, just generally? dont have to be specific.

Are you installing them as shared? If not they would have to know the IP or a hostname or something like that. I install ours as unshared, never had that happen.

Yeah with all of that it seems it isn't worth it. I guess for a one off its fine to try to see how they work and the quality, but buying many won't be an option because you will never know if they will get support or updates.

Right. If I don't care about support and just want to test it out, I'm sure everything is great. But putting these in a customer site and telling them to "trust me" just feels like a bad idea.

      Yes i agree

Fanvil has no list and if you don't buy from Fanvil's list

      Wait, what? lol

Right? This is the whole issue. Basically they refuse to let you buy in the US. They act like they want to sell here, but no matter where you try to buy, they point out that there is no support if you buy "unauthorized". When you ask how to buy "authorized" they reply with "you can't, hahaha". And it's an endless circle.

So can other regions get better service or am I missing something?

Also looking at the next level that involve muti-country and all that "UC" stuff (to some degree, more like using a VOIP App).

UC is a scam, like UTMs. Sounds fancy, but really has no business purpose. Avoid UC. Don't avoid UC platforms, every phone platform is called UC now. But don't use any UC features, it's just stupid. Phones are phones, trying to make them into everything else is going to be a terrible experience for the business and cost a lot of money while making things that have long ago been solved into problems again.

I've kinda wondered that briefly from time to time.... I can't really imagine what a person wants to unify with their phone system - short of getting voicemails sent to email, and possibly counting fax to email as part of UC as well. Personally I don't see video chat in the phone arena, it's it's own thing - though obviously doesn't need to be.

Isn't UC just a package deal, locking you in to one vendor with several products?
