    • Voice Mail Message: Script

It seems that all to often here of late, when people call they don't leave information that is really important....a phone number to call them back on.

While a person can be told x, y, z, they will sometimes forget and just remember x and y. But does anyone have or use a script to record their voice message? Or have suggestions on something short, simple, and meaningful?

      Thanks

@Dashrender EXACTLY!! I really need to be able to write. when I am on a call with a client or onsite writing is a lot easier then trying to hand write on a tablet (believe me I have tried on multiple platforms). So I am looking for something that can skip the using my scanner step and sync to my tablet.

Good point @Minion-Queen - when you are on site with a client, it's sort of distracting and slightly rude to tap away on a tablet or convertible. A pad and pen means you are actually interested in what they are saying... and not as ''noisy''

I think I agree with where I think MQ is going - paper is just easier. A stylus and tablet will never be as a nice for taking notes as a pen and paper...

I think part of the problem with a tablet not being as nice as paper is that paper is flexible, can be folded and several other things I can't come up with right off.

And then there is the weight. Yes, tablets are getting lighter, but there is only so much you can do about weight due to size - practical size to allow for writing.

What do people classify under accomplishments? I understand things like certifications would go under there. (Which I don't have unfortunately) What else? Significant infrastructure updates? Training's? Conferences attended?

How about for technologies know? What do people generally put under that heading? Specifics like VMware or more general things like Hypervisors?

So far I have the following:

      • Name
        • Contact information
      • Technologies
      • Work Experience (reverse chronological order)
      • Education
      • Personal Experience

What is acceptable for personal experience? Would I put a home lab in there? Or would this be more like things done outside of school/work but still "work".

      Yes and no..

Something are 'fluff' when you are talking IT. Server 2003 Admin doesn't need to be listed for every job you do if the last 3 places have had a Windows 2003 server you worked on. List it once.

Same goes with some technologies. An adding machine (poor example) is a adding machine regardless of it being used in 5 jobs. It's a skill like riding a bike (sorta). I can ride a bike,.. Mountain, touring, cross - it's still a bike.

Also I don't think Employer Contact information is needed on a resume. Again, adds fluff. The resume is your sales tool while riding with the guy on an elevator to the 4th floor. To much extra information and they will miss the important things they are looking for.

If you have a home lab absolutely state that. But under personal accomplishments.

Good to have a home lab - shows willingness to learn.

Bad thing about a home lab - you take work home with you. Oh wait - I do that already...

Agree with @scottalanmiller , list the degree as anticipated.

Chronological order, putting skills, projects, and such first with your employment next. It's 'nice' to see your education, but your skill set is more important.

What about security? I don't have company (or higher) secret information or financials, but there are times I want to note something, and know that it's not going to be compromised. UserID or Password information is something that comes to mind right off.

The cross platform sync is nice..mobile to desktop,.. but I'm concerned with keeping it secure should the device go missing, or that the information is 'floating in a tin can',...

      There is nothing built in.

@g.jacobse Are you wanting to pre-encrypt the email? if so, then what @scottalanmiller said is correct.

If you are wanting to know if TLS is used, that answer is that it is on opportunistically for all Office 365 email that is sent or received.

There is likely a method to require TLS on a per domain level, as that was a standard Exchange function, but I have no idea where in the Office 365 portal to find the option.

We are governed my HIPPA and etc. so need to encrypt the actual email.

Onenote being MS product, and I do see that it has a free download.

But how is it different then EverNote?

It's FREE! And it is integrated with the MS Office suite, Sharepoint, etc. That's the big thing. And it has been around much longer (if that matters.)

Free is a good thing. It's not so much to bash MS and Office. however I myself (personally) don't own a current copy of Office, therefore I don't have the Suite or SharePoint...

Now here in the office. I have Office 365. But that is now, and at the office.
