I use the following:
host or function/task | prd or lab | location | client domain.com
eg, dc-01.prd.la2.bob.com
dc-01 = domain controller
prd = production
la2 = LA2 co-lo
bob = client's name

Cloud is 10000% reliable....it never fails, it's the cloud. Don't need no stinkin' backup, it's in the cloud!
@Pete-S The desktop is connected to vlan10 (my op says that, I think)

DNS server is at 10.50.235.235
Configure your computer to look to 235.235 for DNS... and configure the DNS server at 235.235 to forward anything it doesn't recognize along to your Meraki?
I added 235.235 as an additional DNS in the 250.254 network.
I tried this yesterday but silly me forgot to "refresh" the NIC so it could grab the new settings.
All is good & working.
@dafyre said in Co-lo + 5 (or more) sites....connect 'em all:
I'm up to 3 sites for the moment. Once of them goes away in about 2 weeks.
I connect them all via ZeroTier.
This is you: https://mangolassi.it/topic/19493/zerotier-site-to-site
How has it worked out so far?
Update: this is what I ended up with.
Route based VPN using this guide as a template.
Master site: 1x ER 12 + 1x ER 4
Sites A, B, C & D :1x ER4 each location
Colo: 1x ER4 & 1x pfSense (SM x10SDV-TLN4F+)
@Pete-S said in Windows Server licensing for HA?:
If you have two servers and run HA, does that mean that you have to license Windows Server standard for the maximum number of VMs running when you have a failure?
So for example,
Server A: 16 cores, runs 6 VMs normally
Server B: 16 cores, runs 6 VMs normallySo each server has to be licensed for all 12 VMs running on 16 cores - so 6 x Windows Server Standard licenses for each server, total of 12 licenses?
But if you didn't run HA, you would only license each server for 6 VMs, with 3 x Windows Server Standard, a total of 6 licenses?
Is this correct?
I don't believe this is correct.
You must license for all the cores, 16 per server, in your case.
Even if you choose to run 1 VM, you must still license for 16 cores..."All physical cores on the server must be licensed, subject to a minimum of 8 core licenses per physical processor and a minimum of 16 core licenses per server"
No Type 2 discussion here.
Was having a discussion with myself & just wondering out loud........
Tomorrow, if I was starting from scratch, I would use "........"
Started in 05/06 with Virtual Iron (VI got "swallowed" by Oracle).
then switched to Hyper-V (it was beta, back in the '06 timeframe).
Since then, I've also tried some XenServer, oVirt & ESXi.
Currently use KVM.
Now back to that tomorrow statement....
For a standalone setup, my 1st choice would be KVM + Virt-Manager.
For a hyperconverged setup, my 1st choice would be VMware + VSAN.
I'd never even bother with Hyper-V.
One downside to KVM (in virt-manager) is lack of snapshots for UEFI VMs.
I took a stock ER4 (fw 2.0.8), followed this guide, performed steps 1 to 7 & 9, Configured the L2TP Server
When I try to connect from F31 VPN client, I get an error "Disconnected. VPN service failed to start"
I've done this plenty of times with other ER-4's & they just work, the only difference being those ER-4's also have S2S VPN's.
What step am I missing?
Aside from @scottalanmiller who else on here has a homelab ?
ps, before you run to your keyboard, spare me the response, running a hypervisor on your laptop is NOT a home lab!
noob question here:
If you're hosting on Cloudflare, this should be used instead of LE?
@Pete-S You are correct. You can copy the the qcow2 into the default Proxmox location. That's what I did when I was testing.

You have that info in the thread below from the other day:
https://mangolassi.it/topic/21751/import-a-qcow2-into-proxmoxBasically you need to put it in the right place and it has to have the right name (depending on config file, what filesystem, VM ID)
Right, it seems that you just go into the config and edit the name of the drive to point to the correct volume name and ta da.
What do you need to do in order to change the boot order?
You can do this in the GUI.
Have you looked at https://1password.com/
Btw, I tried (actually paid for it) Dashlane...no thanks. Terrible, gawd awful support!
I really need to do a clean reinstall, I've been upgrading since F26.
There's a lot of crap I'd like to get rid of.
