Microsoft issues urgent security warning: Update your PC immediately

Microsoft is urging Windows users to immediately install an update after security researchers found a serious vulnerability in the operating system.
The security flaw, known as PrintNightmare, affects the Windows Print Spooler service. Researchers at cybersecurity company Sangfor accidentally published a how-to guide for exploiting it. The researchers tweeted in late May that they had found vulnerabilities in Print Spooler, which allows multiple users to access a printer. They published a proof-of-concept online by mistake and subsequently deleted it -- but not before it was published elsewhere online, including developer site GitHub.

Have we not known since the beginning of time that printing is evil? 😛

Anybody here that is running PeerTube?

It's self-hosted open source video sharing using P2P networking to lessen bandwidth requirements on the servers.

I am not. The Jupiter Broadcasting guys set one up at some point. I think that project’s now on their back-burner.

Same, at the same time as getting a software deployed for a test bed for a customer. ADUC keeps telling me a object's distinguished name doesn't exist (when I'm calling it from said server....)

Ha! I'm only having to deal with IE Site-to-Zone mappings at the moment.

What Linux desktop os would people recommend?

I would look at Fedora or Pop_OS if you're wanting something Ubuntu based.

Fedora is a direct competitor with Ubuntu, in no way is it Ubuntu based. Fedora is a "root" distro, a base from which others are built. It is based on nothing, it is built from scratch.

In the Ubuntu world, Debian is Fedora's counterpart. It is a "root" distro based on nothing and built from scratch. On it is built Ubuntu.

Pop_OS is decent, but I would avoid it as a newbie because it is not as polished as Ubuntu and lacks the broad compatibility and isn't as easy to use because it is more locked down. We tried it, it is nice, but it has problems that something based on Ubuntu shouldn't have and not things I'd want someone just learning Linux to deal with.

I fail to see where I said Fedora is Ubuntu based. Though I suppose if you misread the use of "or" you could come to that conclusion. Also, it sounds like you and I have had different experiences with Pop_OS.

@pete-s yeah it's been a thing now for like 2 years now. Many have been using it and following it.

Yeah, looks like I missed out.

I remember it was something that had to be installed, rather than being a part of the default Windows install. Is that still true?

@pete-s said in Shift + PgUp/PgDn in terminal?:

When you use Shift + PgUp/PgDn on a linux console you can scroll the screen buffer.

Where does this behavior come from? Is it the shell, a utility on the server, is it the console client, is it the ssh client?

It's not working for me using ssh (on windows) and I realized I have no clue where to start looking...

Probably specific to the config of your terminal program, unless you’re truly talking about the console itself.

I had to alter some key bindings in Gnome Terminal to get the desired behavior from the weechat key bindings.

      @yonah-s said in Microsoft Resellers:

      Hi everyone.
just a note that it is not the company you work with that makes the difference.
for every person who "hates" CDW there is another that "loves" CDW and that is due to the REP that they work with.
it's 99.9% the rep that makes the difference. Most of the resellers out there do the exact same thing. They just package it differently.
if you have a great rep that you like - GREAT! Stick with them.
if you have a crappy rep who is a newb and doesn't seem to know what they are doing either ask for a new rep who has been around 5 years or more or ..... come to me and I have a BUNCH of options for you of great reps I can hook you up with in a few different companies.
Scott Alan Miller can attest .
      🙂
and if the reseller doesn't listen when you ask for a rep who has been around 5 years or more... that means they don't care about your business - MOVE AWAY.

This is true. The representative is the major factor.
