Also, Google now agree with me, and have reinstated deleted accounts.

though I suppose they could claim that since you got the phone illegally, then the contract is null and void.
Correct. That's as plain as plain can be. So if the phone is gotten illegally there was no service to even cancel as the service use was stolen. So that answers that question.
I don't think so. From what I gather people broke Google's terms of service regarding reselling phones, but didn't do anything illegal. And these were terms relating specifically to the Pixel. So having their Google accounts (eg Gmail) deleted seems harsh, since Gmail shouldn't have anything to do with Pixel.
But Google considers breaking one set of terms violates all terms and cancel all your Google related services. That's what I disagree with and fear.

RE: Photo storage -Flickr vs Google photos vs ?
You're saying these companies can't cancel your account if you've paid them? I'm not sure. I've heard too many stories about accounts getting cancelled. For example, Amazon cancelling accounts for returning to many faulty items and then you can't access your Kindle books or use your Amazon Firestick. Maybe they can't cancel during the subscription term, but if it's only monthly you could easily get caught out.
With regards to paying Google, yes, Google photos requires payment if you want to store photos at full resolution. I don't. It's done via Drive.

RE: Photo storage -Flickr vs Google photos vs ?
I definitely recommend plenty of redundancy. That's why I use both Yahoo and Google. I'd never trust one provider with a lifetime of photos. I read recently about Google shutting down people's account because they didn't like the way they'd bought some Google Pixel phones (something about a shipping scam across US states?). The idea of them just deleting all your photos is pretty scary - especially when it relates to a completely different and unrelated product.

RE: Photo storage -Flickr vs Google photos vs ?
I've never really liked Flickr's interface. I don't find it at all intuitive. I find everything slow versus Google. I prefer Google's editing functionality. I find Flickr's phone syncing flaky but never had an issue with Google's.

I use both and think Google is miles better. My only concern is giving Google even more insight into my personal life.

OK, I'll get an ER-X. Thanks for the advice.

And what's wrong with it now?
The general idea of running mixed solutions is frowned upon (at least by the ML crowd). You can get super cheap but good firewall services for as low as $55 for an ER-X, then if you really need web filtering, do that as a VM on your VM Host.
You'e lost me. I just use it as a firewall. Smoothwall Express doesn't offer web filtering, does it?

RE: Getting started with SmoothWall
I've used Smoothwall for nearly 20 years and still do. Out of the box it comes with default rules and a nice GUI, so you can set it up in about 5 minutes. I did look into the corporate version a few years ago when we were looking at implementing a few extra features not available in the free Express version but it was quite expensive and I didn't really get on with it.

RE: Is it right or is it theft/fraud?
If the vendor is going to be at the event then I think it's fine. It's about building a rapport with them, talking business, and doing it in a pleasant environment. I have no concerns about going to these kinds of events.
If they're not going to be at the event, or aren't going to talk to you there, then it is just giving you free tickets and I'd consider that a bribe and wouldn't go. Some of my colleagues do and I think it's disgusting - especially when they go during work hours.
The normal format for the events I go to is you have to sit through a few boring presentations in the morning, then have lunch whilst being hassled by a salesmen, then do something interesting and fun in the afternoon. If it's during work time I only go if I think my employer can get something out of it because I don't believe in getting paid to have fun. There can be value in creating a good rapport with a salesman at these events as it can help you negotiate better pricing if you do ever buy.
Also, these events are often great places to network with your industry peers. There's usually several of the vendor's existing customers at the event and I always try and talk to them privately and find out what they think of the vendor. It's a great way to get references.

RE: Project Management solution
There are so many really great project management tools out there right now that I think you just have to look at which ones best meet your specific needs. Many of them are free for a limited number of users, or offer free trials, so you can easily take them for a test drive. I tried several before settling on Trello, but everyone's requirements are different, so it's hard to recommend a specific solution.
I'd just make sure you go for a well established and popular solution. There's no point picking a cool solution only to find that it shuts down six months after you start using it (along with all your data if it is cloud based).
Really, I'm just happy to be alive in a post-Microsoft-Project world.

RE: Microsoft Teams announced
The blog post says
"Starting today, Microsoft Teams is available in preview in 181 countries and in 18 languages to commercial customers with Office 365 Enterprise or Business plans"but here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/Microsoft-teams/setup it says you need one of the following plans:
Office 365 Midsize Business
Office 365 Enterprise E1, E3, or E5
Office 365 Education
Office 365 DeveloperThere is no mention of Office 365 Business there. Which is what I have. So it doesn't look like I can get it. Also, as far as I'm aware, "Midsize Business" no longer exists, so why are they listing that? Bar stewards.
I really don't know why I continue to bother with Microsoft. The hoops you have to jump through is ridiculous. Even if I could get Teams up and running, they'll likely just kill it in a couple of years anyway, or at least remove it from my O365 subscription and try and force me to upgrade to an E3 account, so what's the point?

Looks good. I love Veeam. How much is it, though?

Thanks. I feel a bit stupid now. I hate it when I find out I've been pronouncing things wrong

RE: Microsoft Teams announced
Couple of questions
"eligible Office 365 commercial customers beginning November 2, 2016"What does this mean? Am I able to get it right now as a normal O365 user in the UK or will it be a slow roll-out?
Secondly, is Office 365 pronounced "Three Six Five" or "Three Sixty Five"? For some reason, I always thought it was the former, but in the video it's the latter.

@Mike-Davis said in UK - HP Elitebook offer:
@Breffni-Potter not a bad laptop except for needing a dongle for ethernet and VGA. I mean a dongle? really?
If that doesn't matter to you. It's a nice thin and light laptop. The keyboard has a nice feel to it as well. You can also dock it, which is cool.
I don't think you need ethernet or VGA if you have a dock. Keep the laptop minimalist and let the dock handle your office connections.

RE: Phone Photography - 4:3 Vs. 16:9 and the Dreaded Vertical Position
Photos can be portrait or landscape. There is no right or wrong, though portraits tend to be better in portrait and landscapes tend to be better in landscape, as the name suggests
-
RE: Phone Photography - 4:3 Vs. 16:9 and the Dreaded Vertical Position
Why does 4:3 give a better picture quality? Surely the sensor is 16:9?

RE: Phone Photography - 4:3 Vs. 16:9 and the Dreaded Vertical Position
I always shoot video in portrait mode and yes, it does drive me nuts when I realise. Clearly I'm a girl!
