BTW, I called Microsoft, and these keys, while allowing for a valid install of Windows 10, do not show as activated under Windows 10.

So I really have no idea what is going to happen after Friday.

I'm not so sure Microsoft knows, either. Or at least their chat people set up to deal with activation issues.

    • RE: Getting Windows 10 License Upgrade on Linux Mint Laptop

I wonder if ANY of the upgraded machines have their keys "registered" under Windows 10.

This is mainly a FPP discussion, but say I bought Windows 7 FPP. I upgrade to 10. I want to but a new machine and install it there. I don't have a Windows 10 key. Will the 7 key be registered that it was used for 10? I wonder...

All mainly under the discussion of getting Windows 10 for free.

Maybe it is just a scare tactic and everyone is getting Windows 10 no matter what.

      Wouldn't that be something.

Of course, knowing how money hungry MS is, I bet not.

Has anyone updated to 5.1 yet?

I tried today, and it kept me on 5.0.

Is it under next-release or stable? Or something entirely different?

FORGET IT I FIGURED IT OUT.

I must have been on next-release or something.

I ran it again with no issues.

      Ah, 2nd guess, compress:

Both the jobs with and without compression both say "compress:"

I'm wondering if it was supposed to say
      "compress:yes"
      or something.

Which is why I am wondering if it is a bug.

Nothing like waiting till the last minute I guess.

      that's how I roll.

Can't really blame you for avoiding the pain that always stems from dealing with Microsoft.

Though the Windows 10 upgrade process has been pretty pain free.

The one issue I hit a lot was a too small system reserved partition on a lot of machines.

    • RE: What You Need to Know About XenServer

My new take on XS is to not touch XS. It's like Fight Club.

The easy way for ISOs I found was...

      a) set up a new Linux Mint VM
      b) set up an anonymous share
      c) add ISOs
      d) done

Windows works, but it;s hard to do anonymous shares, I've always found. You could create a user, which I did initially, but I've since moved to a small Mint instance and haven't looked back.

That's a way to do it also yes. In general, I've got always a physical machine (eg for backup) with enough space to do that. Doesn't require much bandwidth and power to simply share ISOs.

      Yeah, just giving options. 🙂

      There are many. 🙂

Anything that can share files would work. I just find sharing files anonymously through Windows maddening.

Extremely easy install. Everything up and running. Reading/Testing more tonight. How are you guys determining the need for virtual/physical cores per server etc?

There is some nice performance monitoring built right into XC and XO. That's a good place to watch and see if anything (CPU, RAM, etc.) needs to be increased.

@scottalanmiller ... one more thing you might want to add to your initial writeup is to install the XenTools onto each VM for optimal performance monitoring and VM functionality

P.S. @wirestyle22 install the XenTools on your VMs if you haven't already. You'll find them on the ISO repository. Just inser the tools ISO and run it.

I'm not being a smart ass, but what is there to guide?

      Install ISO, run setup.

      Am I missing something? 🙂

@BRRABill A lot of XS noobs seems lost with that, and the official doc is not very great.

It would be nice to know what you have with and without. I think that would explain why it is needed.

I think they confused things a bit with XC7 by including the "windows updates" thing. Are you going to touch on that? (I bet you'd get a lot of Google hits on that one.)
