      And there is Wasabi.

I do like that company for many reasons other than cost. But what throws me off is the method to connect the appliance is to use AWS S3. Any idea why that is?

That's not what it says at all. You are seeing the S3 API being chosen and thinking of Amazon's S3 service. Wasabi is just S3 compatible, that's all. It doesn't require a special API like other services.

The logo is what is throwing me off. I'm assuming the S3 API was created by Amazon, but then they are just allowing other companies to use it?

From what I've read about S3, it isn't proprietary; which makes me think Amazon doesn't have any kind of patent on the tech...

    • RE: Can Roaming Profiles be a good idea?

Roaming profiles are an archaic approach and a major headache, always have been in every environment I've been in. They were a good idea when introduced, but constantly has issues. Folder redirection replaced roaming in some environments, but I've still had some of the weirdest issues with even folder redirection. There are other methods for storing files anymore.

Ended up just going with BackBlaze B2 for the cost. Lacks encryption, but I'm handling encryption at the appliance.

    • Synology cloud backups

Outside of a proper 3-2-1 backup model, I'm looking at a 2-1 model for a certain appliance at this time. I've looked at BackBlaze B2, Synology C2, and also Azure Storage (archive pricing). It looks like BBB2 and SC2 both have file history, but I haven't found anything on Azure Storage having file history (not just a 1:1 sync, in case someone makes a mistake or the appliance gets hit with ransomware).

      Two questions:

      • Anyone know if Azure Storage being used to backup a Synology appliance can be configured with file history? (I also looked on the Synology side in backup tasks).
      • Anyone used any of the 3 and have some "gotchas"? (sometimes that is pricing, but the pricing has been pretty transparent about archiving/downloading/uploading/etc).

Edit: Found file history for Azure Storage. I couldn't find it the first time because the documentation I was reading was for blob only, not for "general purpose" which could be file backup/Azure Files.

Man, it's insane how plagued you are with O365 issues. I've never had any clients or personally experienced that in various organizations. Not to say I haven't had any issues... PowerBI has been a pain in the ass.

@scottalanmiller said in Struggling with Rocket.chat CSV Import:

I often find that the ACT of posting something makes me think about it and fix the issue. The issue was that I was zipping the folder that contained the files rather than making a "flat zip" file. It is working now.

Ah, so you had to zip the contents is all, rather than zip the folder?

    • MSP certificate management

Considering what possibilities might be out there for handling lots of client certificates a little more effectively. Here's the goals:

      • Manage hundreds of certs in a multi-tenant console.
      • Automate scheduled renewals wherever possible.
      • Not completely lock the client into a CSP model. I want them to be able to easily walk away from us if they choose. This might mean purchasing certs from somewhere like GoDaddy if they choose to leave, but I want to make the process as easy as possible.

I've been looking at GlobalSign. I know they are geared more toward CDN, but not sure if their easy management could fit into what I'm looking for.

I am the worst at that. The worst.

I might actually be worse. Not for certain, but possible.

      Have you ever tagged anything?

      If so you aren't worse.

      Honestly I don't think I ever have.

    • RE: Are People Just Not Buying Computers Anymore?

It is the kind of content consumption. Many do not game, develop in Adobe/AutoDesk/ProTools/etc. I would say the masses do not, and if they do much of it is probably web services. The end user PC is shrinking.

For business, I store nothing on my actual computer and most of my software is FOSS. If my drive died... I don't care. I connect to LOB/MGMT/TS systems for whatever I need. For my consumer life... I have Spiceworks and MangoLassi along with research. That's about it.

The device is becoming irrelevant, or is already irrelevant at this point. It's about the platform, and that platform is no longer the device's OS, or is nearly no longer the OS. People want cheap, mobile devices that are responsive; ones that can jack them into the world to deliver the best UX for their individual data consumption/delivery.

I and a few others here know the owner of this MSP! Just before he got his with this he actually won an award for that county as best MSP.

Well the client didn't pay their bill. So he shut off services.

And the fact that the new MSP took 10 days to get their email running..... there is a reason why he is cheaper 😉

Same happens with municipal utilities. They will shut off your lights, water, and power for non-payment.

Yes but they can't do it the day after a missed payment, I think there are rules governing how that works.

I don't remember the specifics of this case, but how long haven't they paid? Were proper warnings given? Did he take the delinquent account to collections?

I agree. Having worked for municipal water, I gave people 90 days to pay. They didn't have to pay the full amount, just enough to turn the water back on which was 30 days. So people were really always behind by 2 months in that regard.

From the overview of the case, there was a lot of warning and leniency for an extended period of time. I'm guessing even compromises with partial payment. The rules are governed in the written contractual agreement though.

I definitely consider them a hat.

It's the only good conclusion. I don't see how they can be anything else.

I have 1 friend who wears a baseball cap because he's balding very early. He could wear a hair hat, but the man loves baseball.

That software is pretty damn powerful for being a free sign up for a few users... wow. Didn't find a remote remove option, which would be nice. Had to manually run the app again to remove it from the test machine.

There is a remote option it is just you need to ask for it.

What do you mean ask for it?

Just to CYA you should probably get HR to open a ticket with exactly what they want so it's documented.

Agreed, they were both on the call (owner and HR). I got everything documented and will have them sign it the next time I'm in the office to implement.

Try just using psexec to see if that works:

      psexec \\computer cmd

psexec \hostname cmd errors saying psexec is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet. Suggestion [3,General] the command psexec was not found, but does exist in the current location.

Do you have PSTools downloaded and extracted to your Windows / System32 directory, as well as NirCMD?

I opted for Windows directory when prompted. I'll double check.

Edit: looks like that is what was needed. Thanks.
