But then again, is ANYONE buying IoT stuff or just using the term a lot? I've yet to see any IoT stuff really on the market.

I continue to be amazed that the car systems are in any way linked to the entertainment systems. that's the root of the problems right there.

And you could allow this assuming you put a firewall between the two with good security. sigh

Probably because they want to use networking for diagnostics or something. And they don't want to install dual radios.

There isn't a need to though - they could firewall the car systems. Hell, they could install an ERL lol

Hmmm... so the Internet of Things at Best Buy is just a new name for things that have been around a long time? I was hoping for something that didn't exist before the IoT term was around.

The difference now is that those things are all internet enabled out of the box. While some of them could have been before, they weren't in the consumer space.

I guess, but it is suddenly like saying that Playstations and XBOXes are "Internet of Things" now. I'm expecting new things like microwaves, windows, and such. I've had wifi by default thermostats for years, cameras, baby monitors... like a LONG time.

Yes, WiFi to your own local network, and perhaps you could create your own internet server to access them from. The difference today it the internet component.
