Lotus Notes

I have a new client that has a Lotus Notes server with a database of archive content. They want to export it out of Lotus Notes in to something else that is currently supported. Does anyone know of any consultants they would recommend for something like this? In my searches, http://www.merlinconnect.com/ keeps coming up, but I filled out their "contact us" form a week ago and haven't heard anything.

have you looked at the data? Perhaps you can find a way to just dump it to Excel or something.

What is the "something else" that they want to send it to?

It doesn't really matter what we export it to as long as it's accessible.

Bahah I'd love to get away from it, we have a few people on it from a company we bought out but they cling on to it..
I can't even figure out how to manage the dang thing. or how to setup Lotus notes in new accounts.. we had them Right Click Run as with their old company accounts via a domain trust.

Lotus/IBM notes is still currently supported.
It's call IBM Domino that's what we are running.

It's definitely much more than email. It's a full DB backend with it's own GUI frontend for anything you want to do with it.

Where are the *.nsf files saved? I assume on the client and not the server? but where?

Yes. Just like Exchange. It is email.
I know you can do extra things with Exchange, but frankly I've never seen anyone do those extra things directly with Exchange. instead they install a product to the side of Exchange and integrate them.
With Domino you can create full blown apps like Access on crack.

Actually it depends. Notes/Domino can work just like Outlook/Exchange and keep most of the files on the servers side (though in the olden days the contacts were local - I think they did finally move to server side though). So the NSF are generally on the server in the /mail folder under the Domino main directory.
If there is a local copy, the NFS is either in the users's profile - god only knows where, or the All users profile directory(s).

This shows how little I know about it.. only 20 people or so have it in the company we bought out.. tiny amount. Turns out they aren't even using it for email. There was a custom app built inside of it a long long time ago. Horrible idea. Now we got to find a way to replace it.

When I saw the topic title "Lotus Notes" I thought "hey, an archaeology project"
I do warn people against this kind of thing, and one of my old specialities was moving people from old MS Access and various other legacy garbage to typically intranet web based applications. I like doing that kind of thing.

Yep we would have never done it.. There IT was crap (and a lot of it was outsourced).

The client is pretty much just storing rich text in the database. Thanks to those that asked those questions so I knew what to look for when I went in. There are no attachments.
Does anyone want to propose a solution as to what to move the data to? I'm assuming a hosted database server with a simple web front end. The database won't grow because it's just archive information.

If it's just rich text, can it be exported to Excel? or csv?
After that you can do whatever you want with it. Build a web front end to search it, or just leave it in that form and search it from Excel.
