Do you buy the cheap ones or the more expense ones?

I've heard opinions all over the board.. The cheap ones are better if you replace them like you should because they don't strain the hvac system as much (not as thick so easier for air to go through).. to some people swearing by the expensive ones and how much better they are.

Cheap ones all the way. I keep a few around and change them often. When I used to try the expensive ones, I found myself cleaning them off with a vacuum and putting them back (which can't be good for the system), to avoid throwing $20 away so quickly.

Yep I use the cheap ones as well, in a 3-pack usually for the home.

Change them once a month and save some money.

I use the cheap ones as well. the Blue ones in a back together..

I wonder if the more expensive ones are ever better? I have a feeling this is marketing and people just buy it because they think they are getting something better when they spend more

for sure the more expensive ones filter better....but like the OP said they strain the hvac system's blower. that being said.... we run the cheapies, change them out when we remember every month or every other. they're never really dirty. we have very little carpet and vacuum pretty regularly. my wife has bad allergies, and does fine w/ our system :).

I have had a HVAC guy tell me the expensive ones cause too much resistance on the blower motor and can cause your system to wear out early. Buy the cheap ones and replace them often.
