@scottalanmiller @dashrender Three hours? Filthy casuals. Try Civilization where it can take days to play through a whole game, and weeks in multiplayer. The devs even made changes to force a faster playstyle so with changes like that enabled, the timing can be brought down to 2-5 hours, though it is cheating in my mind.
Also, ARK is persistant so my ARK 'game' has been going on now for more than a year.Try Endless Legend ^_^

If you wait for people we'd fall asleep. RTS means that the length of the game is how long it takes to play. With turn based you have to figure out how long people are just sitting around doing nothing and divide the time by the number of players. I've tried Civ before... just so slow.

Try Offworld Trading Company. It's like 30 minutes a game max, but it's very complex and interesting! Made by one of the guys who did Civ IV. Real time.

It's inspired by the old MULE game. Economic warfare on a foreign planet. Just a lot more complex than the old MULE version (which you can still play here, btw: http://www.planetmule.com/ )

OTC is one of my favorite games right now. It's fantastic.

Also, ARK is persistant so my ARK 'game' has been going on now for more than a year.In a single player game this doesn't matter - just look at console games, play for an hour now, then again later, etc. Multiplayer games that take hours or days of game play - damn talk about dedication of a group to make that happen.
though, you only have to look at the lights of Evercrack - I mean Everquest to know that there are those who will give up almost everything to play group games for near endless hours. I know several people who lost jobs over the game, and others who became part of the unclean masses -
Back when I first started playing WoW, a buddy of mine had asked me if I was going to become a
basementgamer-cave dweller... Fortunately, I only ever make it there for short visits. -

Does it really matter? We can't buy anything from Lenovo, even if they invented the cure to cancer, would you trust them enough to buy it?

I recently rediscovered the MUD that made me swear off MMORPG gaming for life. It sucked me in to the point where I was going to work, playing and sleeping and that was it:

At least the experience taught me to avoid them for the rest of my life. Same reason I'm avoiding Minecraft as well. Ain't nobody got time fo dat.

You're right... but providing this isn't vapor/malware this could be a serious contender. The big problem will be software.

MUDs were awesome. I was a pioneer of DoS attacks in the MUD days. MUDs are what got me into a lot of gaming. I played a ton for many years and my first UNIX cluster at home was for playing a MUD in the house.

Nope, cure cancer but steal your soul.
