Recommended USB drives for XenServer
-
Any preferred brand of USB drive to host XenServer?
As I'm rebuilding my server, I'm beginning to realize the ones I have may not fit the bill.

Whatever is cheap, really.

No recommendations, with regards to the amount of log file creation and what not that is done?
I kind of figured "cheap" was the answer, wasn't sure if there was a preferred one though

I'm looking at a 5-Pack 16GB for $29.45 that I'll end up getting if the specs or brand don't really matter.

Can you under partition a USB drive and get long life out it? I have read a random article or two hinting that some USB drives can handle garbage collection stuff now like SSD do.
-
I haven't looked into that, but the thumb drive would have to support partitions, most do and should be do-able. The only caveat to be had is that the default install of Xenserver want's 16GB of storage space. So you'd have to run a custom installation.
This isn't a bad deal, it just adds complexity to the infrastructure.

I would think you would want ones that have good transfer rates.
Seems all the drives I have; Kingston, SanDisk, all will do partitions.

Would this really matter though? How much is really running on the drive once it's booted?

I don't think throughput matters nearly as much.
Capacity certainly does though. if you configured your logging off host though, the issue should be resolved.
