So it appears the Turkish military has lost this attempted overthrow.
Anyone else have more info?
At least 260 dead, 2745 district attorneys and judges removed and/or arrested, 2839 soldiers arrested, tens of thousands people of Turkish origin here in Germany protested against the coup and PRO Erdogan.
Deniz Yücel, a "Die Welt" correspondent (large German newspaper) wrote in an article: "For Erdogan, this coup has been a gift from Allah." and "No other coup in Turkey ever was so incompetent [planned and conducted]"

It was going well at first, but it seems as though past step 1 or 2, they didn't know what else to do. Additionally, I think they should translate Allah as "God" or "The Lord" because even Arabic-speaking Christians use that term and it makes everything have a slant involving Islam, even when it really doesn't.
In general though, this was great for Erdagon, he's already said on TV he's going to use this opportunity to "cleanse" the military, and if you combine this with his statement from March that "democracy and freedom have no value," I imagine he's going to extend that to the rest of society at large. He has a history of locking up or exiling rivals and critics, and some meet with mysterious ends too.
My brother has told me that there's a lot of rumours in the anti-Erdagon parts of society that believe he probably did this, or let it happen, so that he could seize more power. It's possible, but I'm not so sure about that, because Turkey has a history of coups.
Anyway @DustinB3403 if you go up the thread @thwr and I posted updates as it was happening, you can get a lot of information there and I imagine some of those streams/links still work and/or are archived.
If you have any specific questions I may be able to answer them as well, because I tried to absorb as much as I could with this event, and I'm also very disappointed nothing came of it other than Erdagon seizing more power and the US kissing his ass the entire time, and the US media in general using the words "democratically elected" so often, sometimes multiple times in the same sentence, so often it was like Edward Bernays wrote the crap.

Well, having a history of it just means that it made sense that he could fake one. It's all over the unofficial media and conversations here that it was faked. Not that we know it was, just that people are questioning it and suspect that it was.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-36819182I think it's sort of funny to see the last pieces of the Empire be chipped away, but also kind of sad for conflicting reasons.

Coworker of mine pointed out this deal to me today. There's a site you can get it for $25 less from but the customer service is highly regarded as total shit. Here's the link. It's pretty cool and a damn good price for what it is.
