iPhone 4 "Apple Logo of Death"
-
OH sorry, missed that you were looking for data recovery, not device recovery. Doubt that there is any option.
-
So it is truly an "Apple Logo Of Death"...
-
IF the drive inside has a normal sata connector you could probably tear it apart and connect to a PC.. but I highly doubt it is.

pretty sure it is encrypted.

I didn't think Apple encrypted full drives until iPhone 5 or 6?

Huh? It's soldered on Flash Storage. The iPod Classic used HDDs but it was 1.8" IDE drives.

OK I did say if it's only if SATA (should have included PATA) you could do this... if it's soldered on, obviously there is not SATA connector

Don't they backup to iCloud by default?
-
It's never been backed up to anywhere? And it's a 4? How many years ago did they get the device? Wow.
-
The user had to try kind of hard to not backup anywhere in all this time.
Unfortunately, there really isn thing you can do with it if iTunes will not give you a backup option.

It is the shop manager...not technical at all and has had his iPhone 4 for years and didn't care about bells and whistles...calls, email, texts...he never bothered to back up to iCloud...I put him into a spare iPhone5 today and made sure he had iCloud on (also set up with OneDrive extra space for photo backup)...

Backups what separates us from the animals.
Use it or lose it. -

Use it or lose it.Yes, nearly all animals have many children as a redundancy / backup strategy. Only humans commonly lack the foresight to plan for disasters
