InfoWorld on Why You Should Be Running pfSense
-
InfoWorld talks about why pfSense is one of the best firewalls available today.
-
Interesting..
Thanks -
pfSense has always been good. This article was really focused on home users. I wish that he had commented on its use in the commercial space.
-
I suppose it was a nice little article, but really didn't tell you much.
-
I like pfSense a lot. This article basically just said... you should use pfSense because I am using it at home, which is fine. Although understandably it is hard to review a router without a massive amount of data.

@coliver
It's hard to review without more data.. One thing I like about Untangled - though it may not fit the bill as a router - can do daily, weekly and month reporting.I don't know if my last office is still running the UT box I installed six years ago,.. but it gave me quite a bit of information over the period I was there. Every so often I would print out a 72 page report - which was just a days worth.
I've heard really good things about pfSense and am looking at maybe deploying it at home.

You could tie pfSense to an ELK box and get very detailed reports that way.

So, I went and looked up ELK. Now I want to set it up and test it out.
@scottalanmiller Since you recommended it, how does this walkthrough strike you?

@JaredBusch at a quick glance it looks good. Maybe I will run through it later too.
-
@JaredBusch I read through that. I may try and run through it today against some of our switches just to see how hard it is.
-
@scottalanmiller @coliver I did not have time to set it up yesterday, but I will try and do it today on CentOS 7.
Tonight is my online D&D game so nothing will get done after work hours today!
