HP ProLiant Server - Fan Failure
-
Just this morning our Production server making loud noise and when i checked Fan of server its not working. Any moment i am sure it will shutdown again..
I haven't encountered this problem before.
Have you encountered this before? If yes, how did you manage to resolve the problem?
Except from replacing the Fan is there any basic troubleshooting that you can advise?
Thanks -
Fans die all of the time. They are a hot swap component because of this. They fail less often than hard drives and power supplies but in the same category. It is expected that fans will die throughout the life of a server chassis so replacing them is an expected part of regular server maintenance. With a Proliant you can normally replace them without even powering down the server.

Go into the ILO and it will produce a hardware report for you and tell you if there are any fans that have had a problem.

or you can procure and plug in a new fan....you need to fix it before it overheats too many times

Finally were able to open the server we cannot use the ILO because the server will shutdown after 2 minutes.
When we turn on the server seems all fans are working but we cannot identify which one causing loud noise. -
Why would your system shutdown after 2 min because of an iLo visit?

Ahh bummer, I was going to hook you up if it was something ancient haha.

Also warn them about using a DL320 as a production server. That is not a server meant to be used that way, that is a cluster node, not a standalone server. The DL360 is the standalone server meant to be used in this way. SMBs should never look at DL320 models.

What's it hosting? I wouldn't have a problem with it for a testing server or a non critical intranet server. Wouldn't use it for much else.

I think that it is their only production server.

We haven't manage to fix the server. We are still waiting for the new replacement of fan. Maybe this week hopefully.

Wow, in the US replacement parts are the same day
Given how long it takes to get parts, it seems like better machines, backup machines and better response time from management to get moving on replacements would happen.
