Maybe teach them how to setup a server and access it via SSH (with putty/powershell/linux terminal).

      Wait.
You can use windows Powershell to SSH into a server?/???

      MIND BLOWN

You can use the ssh client form cmd or powershell.

More like you use SSH from whatever default CLI interface you use on Windows. It is not "powershell" that provides SSH.

I normally use PuTty, I honestly didnt think windows had the capabilities to SSH...

I wouldn't call it a widely publicized thing - if you weren't reading the right things/places it's pretty easy to miss.

Lots of us were using it prior to that. You are looking for when it was added to the Windows install, not when Microsoft released it. They released it as a download, then to Chocolatey, then eventually added it to Windows proper built in.

By the time it was added into the Windows install, it was already well known and talked about.

MS announced they were adding OpenSSH in 2015. I would assume there was a way outside of Windows native tools to add it shortly thereafter. But yes. the first in Windows method was 1709.

People were discussing the Chocolatey version of the package (that was the official source prior to MS building it in) in 2014 at least. And that wasn't the beginning of it.

MS did not get onto the OpenSSH train until 2015.
