Software used for documentation recommendations?

WikiWP is what I am leaning towards.
I have Wiki.js online and tested, but it is honestly too complicated (for my other users) because of the lack of a WYSIWYG style editing.
I tried to setup Grav, but it failed. Will try again later.

WIkiWP hasn't been updated since January 27, 2016. Compatibility issue can appear with a newer version of WordPress.

Works great for me too. But for how long? I normally stick with the defaults from Wordpress.

I started using it a long while ago when it was still current. I didn't realize they stopped maintaining it.
So because of that, I wouldn't recommend running it publicly or allow it to be publicly accessible.
There are a couple other wiki-based themes, but really, you can customize any theme to work well as a wiki.
Come to think of it, I may end up customizing a default theme (like 'Twenty Seventeen' for example) to look like WikiWP via CSS. This way there will be more long-term support.

I have my Fedora 27 WordPress Wiki guide updated to the point of near-completion, or full completion if using WikiWP:

Also, I have a little demo up right now:

Several of us are testing an app called BookStack (https://www.bookstackapp.com/)...
Turns out that @JaredBusch posted an install guide last night some time... https://mangolassi.it/topic/16471/install-bookstack-on-fedora-27

I seen. This is for those wanting to go the WordPress route if/when Bookstack does work out.

Am I missing something? Wouldn't it be better to track and document software in an asset management platform?
What value add is there to using something WP like, when you can keep all of this information in a single location?

Eh? That doesn't make sense. How does it not work well. It's build on managing articles.

So rather than software keys, and simple notes, the goal would be to use this for daily management.
That makes sense, thanks for providing a reason.

I would not use a wiki for software keys. I'd use an asset management software. WordPress and bookstack isn't for that.
However, there are probably good WordPress plugins built just for that purpose.

Yea I get it, when I read the subject "software used for documentation recommendations" I was thinking of it more as a "document our software/hardware"
IE What asset management software should I use.
Not as software to create documentation about the systems that are deployed etc.

Deepends how many you have. Wikis work really well for that up to a certain size.

Yeah it would, especially if using tableless plugin. But even the smallest SMBs have tons of software licensing. I'd rather use Snipe

Do they? Most that I deal with have very little. Some have a lot, but far from most. Even the one I'm sitting at now with over 100,000 contractors has extremely little and is reducing it.

Even an Open Source license needs to be managed (even if minimally).

In what way? It doesn't need to be written down.
