Bringing back memories of Netscape Navigator vs. Microsoft of years ago.

Isn't that what got MS in trouble nearly 20 years ago? I believe that the Fed Gov laid down an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft because of how they integrated IE with either 95 or 98, but not sure which one.

They did. But they don't have the market share that they used to, either.

In what appears a clear move of desperation, users of the new Windows 10 S operating system will be stuck with MS Edge as their only option for a default browser.

Oh well, we can't use it then. No skin off our noses.

Same here, not that we were considering it, but I know that something we use doesn't work in Edge. Very handy to have MS rule themselves out.

I am sure I will have some kind of request for it here soon. Major fanboys in the top brass around here.

We still have options to use other Windows 10 editions.
From what I can tell, you can manage installing apps in Windows 10 Pro with the following options:

                  Allow apps from anywhere
Warn me before installing apps from outside the store
Allow apps from the Store only

Its all about perception around here. To them, it works when its really not.

Microsoft explained that S stood for "Store", not "Schools". Or "Soon". Or "Sandbox". So the premium hardware is being used as a billboard to promote the Windows Store.

It's designed and marketed towards schools. If you aren't a school then I wouldn't be considering it in the first place... and wouldn't be bothered by the Edge-only restriction.

But, maybe schools have a need to allow students to use Firefox/chrome/etc. because some things won't work in Edge... in such case I can see heavily complaining about it.

My only complaint with Edge so far, is that starting with the Creator's Update (1703), clicking on notifications here give an error, unless you open them in a new tab (middle-click your mouse).

They are only blocking the ability to change the default browser. Not that you cannot install another browser. A bunch of hot air is all this shit is.

On a Chromebook, can you set your default browser to Firefox, IE, Edge, etc.?

It's still very crappy. And they didn't block secondary browsers in Windows 98 either.

The import thing is that you CAN set them to NOT Edge.

I haven't tried it under Creators. But it didn't work for me one edition back.

Yeah, well you see... it's no different than what other vendors are doing with their restrictive OSs.... it just so happens that Edge is new and people need to fix their programming 😛
