Details: Made in the late 1990s, this dual processor IA32 PC server was an entry level workhorse in the Compaq Proliant lineup. Tower form factor with option rack mount adapter kit, this unit could accept over 256MB of RAM and up to four SCSI drives. Hardware RAID controller was optional. Compatible with Windows NT 4.

        Actual Reviews to be responses...

NTG owned two of these from 1999 to 2009 with zero failures in a decade of service. Great boxes, easy to configure and ran fast for the period. We had one with hardware RAID and one with software RAID. Both in RAID 5 with 9GB disks. One unit had 128MB RAM and one had 256MB. Very pleased with these boxes, ran Windows NT 4 SP6a without failure. Highly recommended.

@scottalanmiller You're getting me all nostalgic here. One place I worked at had like 45 of those things, none of them rackmount.

Ours were tower, too. Went on a baker's rack.

I have something like that in my office, still.

It was our first server, and I don't want to throw it out.

                Baker's rack for the all-purpose, multi-industry win!

We had a file server, probably the one you've heard stories from me about, that we celebrated it's retirement by taking up to the roof of the press building and throwing it into one of the dumpsters for scrap.... best thing that ever happened to that poor abused box.

We had tonnes of gear on it. Five servers, all towers or odd form factors. All the network gear. Little storage devices. All the oddly shaped stuff.

They hold audio gear just as effectively. I've stacked tons of amps, mixers, rack gear, etc on those things. And they are nice to hold kitchen stuff too - small appliances, pots and pans, etc.

Maybe that is why they call them baker's racks 😉
