Conference Preparations

Oh there will be someone awake still or just getting up depending on the person.

I am making late conference preparations. Will I need a car in Rochester or is everything pretty close? I have never been there before.
You should NOT need a car in Rochester. Couple short taxi rides or car pools will do everything that you need. If you want one anyway, I recommend Enterprise in the airport. They are very nice and helpful.

@IRJ I haven't been either, but I didn't get a car for the conference. I am however getting one for the couple days I'm staying after the conference.
Yes, if anyone is going to drive around afterwards, wait to rent your car until Saturday morning. You will find it annoying to have one until then. Save the money.

Only if you want to travel out side of the city would you want a rental. Were you planning on site seeing outside of the conference?
Why would anyone travel outside such a glorious city?

Worst comes to worst there's always taxis and Uber. I've never Ubered (is that the right term) before, so this might be a good opportunity!
Uber in Rochester? Not saying that's impossible, but it sure seems unlikely. Even many big cities don't have Uber.
-
Definitely no Uber: https://www.uber.com/cities/
Uber just did a weird promotion in Utica (two cities east of Rochester) where they delivered ice cream. We were all laughing at what a dumb promotion it was because they are assuming that people have heard of Uber there and want it. But they haven't, and don't. It's a tiny city. All they've done is confuse upstate NYers into thinking that Uber is a food delivery service.... that they can't get anyway. How dumb is that.
No NY cities have Uber if you look. Not even Buffalo or Syracuse.
-
Lyft is in NYC, Southampton, and Suffolk County. So still no help there.
edit: looks like the state of NY is systematically cockblocking all rideshare services (by being in bed with the current taxi industry): http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/money/business/2015/06/19/lyft-pay-fine-rochester-area-trips/28972401/

Well, somehow I'll get to the airport, when I figure out when I need to go.

Portland ME has uber... that city isn't much bigger then Utica. Just seems odd that they would do a small city in Maine, although it is a commuter city so that may be part of it.

I just put in the time off request. (fingers crossed)

Metro area is nearly double that of Utica, and likely more dense. Utica I can't fathom who would use Uber, you have to have a car to do anything. No one is without out.

Probably kilts too...
Gotta remember mine. Are we specifying a day?

That is totally up to all of you

I can't make it or I would probably wear mine everyday.
-
So just to confirm, there basically no dress code, correct?
If so I am just packing tshirts and cargo shorts!
-
I've been assuming it will be just like SpiceWorld, i.e. no dress code. Hell if you're Darren you make up some fancy costume to wear each year
-
No dress code at all. Dress for warmish days (between 75-85) and cooler nights (40-60)

Gotta remember to pack my kilt, even if it's just for Saturday
