Working on another PS convenience script; the POS systems in both pharmacies will ‘stop’ and they can’t process cards from time to time. You have to stop and start the services to reset.
When I got here, they were remoting to that computer and then stop/starting it,.. having used the command line tool in (remote tool I can’t think of now) I found I could do the same in Manageengine,.. and then via command line. So I wrote a simple batch file to do that task.
Now creating a menued powershell script for both sites.
You could helpfully label it "Fix Broken POS"

Lol, yea… issue for another time. Just one of the many systems it seems that someone else decided that IT should figure out after having gone to the conference and bought it.

Long day for us, we have a lot of servers in Belize where the storm took out the national power grid.

Coffee now. Lots of work today. The kids just got their Pfizer vaccines in Managua.
Seeing a house that we are 95% sure we are renting today. Then I'm heading to Managua myself to party.

Last Friday before much deserved PTO/Birthday celebrations. Closing out open ticket and training the new guy on the Windows/Azure admin stuff I do

That's nothing, on December 7th we are closing our hotel and all its associated bars and restaurants, fencing off the beach, erecting two stages, and TEN international DJs are attending a giant concert on the beach. We have to hire an entire shadow hotel staff to cook, serve, bartend, etc. It's going to be crazy. We are going to sell out every hotel room on both beaches and tons of them in the city. The entire crowd is expected to be from the capital hours away, with lots of people flying in from the US.

We need the real staff for the full day before the event and opening for breakfast as the event ends!

Shadow IT at least to me is IT that is undermining the companies assigned IT staff.
I assume this additional staff isn't there with the goal of undermining the normal staff?

Not necessarily undermining. At IBM Shadow IT did all of the work, the actual IT department was running scams and not actually working, but had political clout and couldn't easily be fired because they were the same ones making money scamming customers and that was the big money (and why only an idiot would get services from IBM.) Internally they were required to pretend the IT staff were doing work so that customers could ask if they were eating their own dogfood, but shadow IT did ALL the work. Anything that actually ran came from shadow IT. In that case, primary IT was the one undermining the business. If they were the only ones there, IBM would have had to have closed its doors.
