so it's hosted by Square Space?
Did you even google SquareSpace? I mean I already know what it is so I didn't' bother, but still.
Nope, I sure didn't, My guess is it's a lot like GoDaddy?

I didn't know SS offered hosting... meh.
So assuming the site is actually on SS, I would say a call to their support is in order - either that or SS operates only on the assumption of www.domainname.com

that's what I told her to do: Call their support and let them know that this is going on.

my friend (who is a business owner for her own Eye Lash cosmetic company) is having issues getting to her website
When i put inmyfriendswebsite.com
i get an Index page
like this: https://i.imgur.com/xsUirIW.pngwhen I use
www.myfriendswebsite.com
i goes through.
Weirdly enough it doesn't work for her either way she puts the address in.so ; it's joycelashes.com
Same behaviour here, but now she got some free promotion She will thank you later when her SEO takes off.
So this implies that the configuration file has different entries for www and the default pages. Need to take a quick look there, like the httpd.conf file or the nginx.conf file (more likely the associated conf.d file collection that they pick up). Should be really simple to see that there are two entries and either merge the bad one into the good one, or just copy the good one.
No idea where this is, and she doesn't either..
how does she not know? That's a pretty major problem for a business owner to not know where her own website is!

Actually, that doesn't surprise me in the least. Just because they set it up on SquareSpace doesn't mean they understand it's hosted there, etc. There is so much disconnect - all they know is they log into some website to make updates and it just works... hosting - what the hell is hosting? I just have a website, that's all I know.

SS is only hosting. GoDaddy does hosting as an aside.
SS is like Wix, hosting with tools to make it easier for people who think WP is too hard and don't want to hire help. So she absolutely knew where it was.

As that's their only thing, what did you think that they did?

I thought CC transactions was their whole point of existing - the square boxes on iphones/androids? or is that another company?

No, it does mean that. They had to choose it. That's like saying you went to the parking garage and parked your car there, but didn't know it was parked there. Um... what? She literally had to think "where will I host this", go sign up for hosting, and chose a place that 100% locked in so that every thing she does is focused on their hosting. She can't use WP or whatever, because her hosting determines everything for her. She knew, please don't use the "people are SO dumb" excuse, she didn't want to say, she forgot, whatever, but she's not a complete idiot.

Yeah, different company entirely.

I've known her for Years, and I'll tell you that this never once crossed her mind.
She needed a website and they offered a place to build said website - I also know this because I literally just talked to her and that was one of my questions.
She asked what Hosting was. -

Did she setup this site or did she pay someone to do it? If the latter, then pay someone to fix it.
Problem solved.
