My post in the #office channel in Slack this morning:
@channel If you have issues printing this morning, follow these steps before posting in #it-help / submit a ticket.- Restart your computer.
- After restarting, click Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners
- Uncheck "Let Windows manage my default printer"
- Click BigPrinter on fileprint (if this doesn't appear, then go to #it-help)
- Click Manage.
- Click Set as default.
- Close the window.

A couple of weeks ago we had someone walk into the IT department and say, this is our new hire... do you have a laptop for him? We all looked at each other blankly as no one ever told us that there was a new hire starting that day.

It's taken a couple of years, but that kind of stuff is now rare.

This was a common occurence at my last job for a long time. Heck, the day I started, I didn't even have a computer.

Put a two week SLA into place and let new hires sit around for a while. Fixes itself.

Just convince your HR department to make it part of the "New Hire Checklist." That's what I did back in the day and it fixed it. There were a few times where they still wouldn't let us know in time, but for the most part, it fixed the issue.

We've had the same problem and put a 2-day SLA on it. Put an end to it so far. Just have to make sure that we keep some computers in storage and ready to go

Still waiting....

You'd be much better than the cable company guys at least.

Don't even do that. Make the SLA two days plus computer delivery time!

I try to not show my frustration to those guys. I come here for help a heck of a lot more than I come here to give it. I'm not going to sit on my throne like I'm king when I can finally do something right.
But yeah, typically

Sometimes our workloads can change somewhat dramatically from week to week, so we must be prepared for some quick hires, even if they come from a temp agency. If they do come from a temp agency, then they are closely monitored.
