Thinking about my career prospects today

I'm exceptionally good at solving problems and I enjoy it quite a bit.

Where should I focus my efforts? What sorts of jobs are available to fit my "IT Problem Solver" skills?

Fix stupid, and I'll give you as much money as you want.

No way. Users just can't understand what we need to do. Must be something genetic.

      Genetics can be bred out.

Said super morons would twiddle buttons and eat knobs... and still find a way to screw up their computer....

        Perhaps something like this:

What a joke not to charge Hillary. This lady has been on the receiving end of "HOW TO TREAT TOP SECRET INFO" briefings for the majority of her adult life.

            Gross negligence at minimum.

I read that presser as ... yeah she did a lot of shady/illegal/stupid/dangerous stuff, but they obstructed enough that we can't really bring a case against them.

Having fun getting some VM's onto my XenServer from ESXi.

Method I've found is I've had to install XenServer 6.2 onto a spare desktop then using XenConvertion appliance and manager moving the VM From ESXi into this machine then using XenOrchestra copy the VM from 6.2 to my new 7 Server 😄

Anyone know the average power draw difference between a Winchester drive and an SSD? I know there are a lot of variables just wondering if it is substantial over a period of time or not.

If I remember correctly, the delta is about four watts.

Huh, that's not too bad. I wonder if anyone did some back of the napkin math to see what the payoff time is in just power.

Yes. I have 🙂 You don't move to SSD for power savings alone, it is simply a cost offset for making them less expensive.

I think you save around $5/year. It's not big, but hardly nothing. It's not just power draw, but cooling as well. That extra 4W is extra heat, too.

If you run your own shop, you have to figure out the cost for you. If you use a colo, you have to figure out the degree to which the carbon footprint matters to you.

Not bad for me recalling a three year old conversation off of the top of my head 🙂
