Cloud Storage - Recommendations and your expierence - can Pertino fill this need?
-
Well I'm glad I didn't come in too soon! SAM hit the nail on the head. We provide the connectivity. You provide the services and permissions.
I haven't heard a ton of great things about Windows syncing capabilities, but Pertino can provide the connections depending on OSes involved. You could also look at OwnCloud, Sher.ly, etc. Much cheaper alternative to cloud storage, just be prepared for versioning issues with any cloud storage solution where you are enabling local copies.

Can't comment on Pertino. Of course, there are loads of cloud storage offerings but my only experience is with Trend Micro SafeSync, which I hated, and Livedrive.com which I quite like. So our remote workers now use Livedrive.com

The sync issue was the 1 item I was concerned about. Plus, the users need to use a folder structure for "Personal files" and "Shared files". The reason I thought about Pertino was the "always on" effect. But as far as syncing, I think that would be an issue if you are looking at accessing these documents from a phone, surface, laptop, etc... I see the Windows OS environment syncing just fine, but what about the phone or other non-windows devices?

It's always about the server and device. Do your devices have some "sync to Windows" functionality? I'm not aware of a product that does that.

Does livedrive allow local copies for offline, then sync? version control? easy folder/shared folder setup?

What about something like Dropbox or the 100 other clones?
-
I haven't tried the service myself quite yet, but Cubby from LogMeIn appears to hit all of your bullet points, and even includes remote wipe. It also lets you make a cubby out of existing folders, rather than sticking to a defined hierarchy like Dropbox does.

Yes, all of these things. I don't personally use these features, but I believe some of my users are using it and I've had no complaints.

Might be worth having a look at the sync n share providers. Most will do what you need but Encryption isn't on man of their lists. Egnyte will integrate with Sophos SGN and I think Box are doing the same
http://www.egnyte.com/file-server/online-file-server-features.html
In my previous life we were rolling Egnyte to over 30,000 users with plans to grow that to 140,000...I was just talking to an ex-colleague this morning who said its going really well. The solution puts a NAS type device in your LAN and does a sync to cloud but has an offline personal cloud function and works on almost anything

Egnyte has a relationship with Netgear ReadyNAS. Very handy option.
