What sort of timeframe, , does everybody get on UPS batteries, before needing to change.

I've seen a lot of oddballs, but generally 3-5 years.

Which reminds me, I probably need to replace some of my personal ones.

We calendar batteries on a 3 year schedule and full replacement 9-12 years.

You should expect 3 years from batteries in standard cheap budget UPSes.

That's the service life of universal lead-acid battery technology.

But if you have a larger UPS (like a 3 phase) where the batteries are specifically made for UPS use, you should expect 10 years of service. It's usually in the specs for the batteries you buy. Some batteries have a 20 year service life.

We have been using these for increased life and less maintenance.

Nearly all the desktop UPS in our office have gone tits up in the last 3-4 months. Obviously, all were purchased at the same time, which was almost 7 years ago by my count. I'm glad to see them go, and they aren't being replaced since our goal is to go all remote by next year!

thanks for all the replies. I have a client that replaces the batteries about every 2 years, they test the batteries every month, ( the test on the APC 2U unit) what would explain the short life ? The UPS is about 14 years old.

Do you know if they're going with brand new or remanufactured / refurbished? My experience with refurbished batteries would have a 2 yr replacement interval be more or less expected.

They use new batteries, from a 3rd parry, ( not official APC batteries) , I have used the same supplier/manufacturer and have had better results (https://www.magnacharge.com).
I was wondering/curious if it could be tied to the age of the UPS.
