I don't see the point of trying to live on Mars when earth will never be in as bad of shape as Mars and will never be as hard to make it habitable as it would with Mars. I'd say play around with it for tech advances, but then again, focusing on Earth would likely bring about advances in other ways.

The idea as I understand it is to have a colony that will survive when we blow this planet up with unexpected results from an experiment...
