Aastra phone replacement
-
We had some power fluxes here on campus Wednesday and Thursday and since then I have lost two Aastra 6757i phones. I'm sure I could by a refurb'd replacement but wondering if any of you have another suggestion. It is our switchboard/receptionist phone so it has to have the side add-on capability to show other extensions that she can transfer calls to.

Haven't looked there yet, was looking at Mitel and Sangoma so far.

Mitel doesn't fit with the conversation. Aastra and Sangoma are low end general SIP makers. Mitel is a very expensive private maker.
Really, none of those should even be looked at till you've looked at Yealink and maybe some like Snom, Fanvil, etc. Sangoma and Aastra are fine, but I've not seen one from either that I'd consider in a real deployment. Mitel... you shouldn't even look there, that's just asking for trouble.
Stick with the shortlist, no need to go far afield.

The SIP-T46S looks like exactly what I want. Thanks!

Aastra doesn't exist anymore. Mitel bought them.

Sangoma phones are horrible IMO.
They are making a new line soon though. so hopefully will be much better. I expect them to combine the Digium quality with the updated Sangoma styling.

It's really nice. That's what I have on my desk.
The SIP-T54 is the model that I think is replacing that in the newer line. But the T46S works great.

Yeah, we have one for testing and while it works, it's... rough. Looks cheap, feels cheap, lacks the build and features of the same price in Yealink phones.

Any recommended seller? Amazon has them for about $190 for the phone and $95 for the expansion module.

That is for the SIP 54S and the T5 expansion

for a one off, just use Amazon.
If you are buying more than that, there are a few good suppliers you can use.

I have a T46G, T46S, and T54W on my desk atm.

@JaredBusch Are you still using FreePBX? I don't see a firmware for the T54W nor is the EXP50 available.

I use FreePBX almost all of the time. I don't generally use the paid EPM.

So then you upload manually? I bought the paid EPM a couple years back and I think I got a 10 year license.

Actually, I have the
/tftpboot
directory in a git repository and the PBX checks for changes every 10 minutes. I push changes into the repo on my local device and it hits the PBX within 10 minutes.I also have the Yealink phones pushing local changes back up to the
tftpboot
folder. So anything changed is up in a git repository within 10 minutes.@WLS-ITGuy said in Aastra phone replacement:

No, that is not how that works. I'm not sure why people do not understand this. But apparently, I am in the minority, so meh.
Your purchased a license to use EPM for either 1 year or 25 years. The 25 year license verbiage is stupid, but basically means forever. I blame the former owners (Schmoozecom for that).
But you do not get updates after the first year. That is a separate charge of ~$26/year. If you have not renewed that, you should. Now, I said that I do not use EPM. But that does not mean it is a horrible option. It just means I have no need for it because I can generally handle everything easier without it. I also spend a lot of time in and out of various parts of phone systems everyday. I'm not the typical SMB generalist that manages everything under the sun for the business they work for.

These phones are basically new since October or so. They will not be in EPM anytime soon because of how that has traditionally worked. The device manufacturer has to sing an agreement with Sangoma (Schmoozecom) to get a device supported. I assume, but do not know for a fact, that the agrement includes monetary compensation also, as anything in EPM is fully tested by Sangoma also, and testing takes manpower (money).
