Mindwashed "It's a MAC, so it's better" people. I've known way to many of them.

This monitor is not something you normally find on a desk of regular users. And its price is actually not that bad if you look at the specs. However, $999 for a stand, that's a new low (or high), even for Apple.

Problem is that Apple never belonged to the high-end when it comes to monitors. Discerning users that need high-end color calibrated monitors for instance for graphics work, retouching, video color grading etc would pick better monitors like Eizo ColorEdge or Nec Spectraview.
There is a lot more to performance than the amount of pixels. For instance how well it can be color calibrated and the uniformity of backlight and color reproduction, how wide the color gamut is, how it behaves from different angles etc.

Yeah, I agree. Super accurate high end monitors are very expensive. But the stand? Is it electric? if not - Screw you Apple.

Even electric wouldn't justify the cost. Gold plated perhaps....

Gold plate? We're not discussing trump's bathroom. We're discussing an item that holds a monitor. . . Is it an articulated arm or just a classic stand like with the iMac's?

Does it matter? Neither would cost 1k.

True I suppose, articulated monitor arms can cost quite a bit so if it had some functionality (user preferences like powered car seats etc) might explain why they are charging $999 for the "stand".
