Yealink t27g vs t42s
-
Is there any reason to not consider the t2x series from Yealink? I'm thinking that the t27g and t42s will suit my needs for a FreePBX installation we're doing. The t27g looks to be about 15-20% cheaper. I was concerned though that it may be an older generation that might have performance, call quality or support issues.
-
I wouldn't be worried about any of those mentioned issues. Only thing - if it's older - how close is it to EOL, i.e. no more firmware updates? Assuming there are any security flaws left to be found?

It is older and IMO, does have performance issues.
I have not used one in years now, so maybe the newer firmware cleaned that up.
It is my opinion, that they just keep the old models around to sell to people that already have them.

Do you have any reservations about the t42s? What is your default basic business desk use phone for FreePBX installs?

We role out the T42S internally and to customers. We love that model.

We use them sometimes. Bought one for @Osvaldo like two days ago, in fact.

They are current and fully supported. Make sure that you see Opus support available and you are looking at modern models. The T2x and T4x series share headphone options, too.

T23G for "low intensity" needs is like 40% cheaper!

I'm sure we are unique, but we use them to ease problems crossing customs because they fall under a different taxation threshold.

US, Panama, and Nicaragua the T42S is our "go to" phone. Mexico it is the T41S. In Bolivia the T23G. Panama and Nicaragua directly leverage a US based supply chain, so what makes sense for us makes sense for them. Mexico has its own supply chain and the T42S is impossible to get and the T41S is easy and reasonably priced. Bolivia needs to cross a tax border and so we have to consider a wide range of customs complications at the border.

Great, thanks.
Do you generally use the Endpoint Manager or any of the other commercial modules? I was leaning toward the Endpoint Manager but it doesn't explicitly have either the t27g nor the t42s on the list of supported phones found here, but I'm guessing that's just because that page doesn't appear to have been updated in a while:

Sometimes, but not often. I'm not a fan of it. It will work as well as it does with most. But we like to set things that need manual intervention anyway, so the value is low.

I always tell people to buy sysadmin pro ($25).
Beyond that, it depends on the needs of the client.
I don’t need it. But for many it makes basic admin simple.

Gotcha. I think I may go with it only because this will be our first deployment and I think it will help streamline configuration for us.
For any interested the updated list of supported phones I found here in one giant table and it does list both t27g and t42s as supported by the endpoint manager. Not sure why the Yealink specific wiki page is not more current.

These are the models of Yealink that EPM currently works with.

It will have an ongoing annual cost. The purchase price is $150. The renewal is umm $25 or $30 or something.
-
Thanks for that. That's good to see that the two models I'm considering are actually in there.

Is that new? According to the link on the site it's $149 for a 25 year license.

True. But that is the license to use it. Not for updates for 25 years..
This is fair also, but it takes work to update the system for new firmware and add in new changes because of that firmware, etc.
