LOL - sometimes I wish my house would burn down so it would be easy for me to let go of all of my possessions. I'm definitely not immune to the typical American attitude of collecting stuffs... though in the past 5 years, I've definitely cut way back, and even sold some stuff - but I have a long way to go.

I'm not sure what you mean by half in use - I assume 850 is a two bedroom, possibly 3 bedroom house with a basement. So you likely use the kitchen, bathroom, living room and one bedroom. That would leave the basement and 1-2 bedrooms not in use.. is that right?

To get my new ID, I had to produce two billing statements with different companies with my name/address on them - and my old ID. This is nothing like a Passport check.

Now that you mention that - I do recall hearing something about that.
NY got an extension IIRC and it will be required in 2020... but there are some states that didn't get the extension and the requirements went into effect in 2018.

Yes, the TSA will be unable to accept non-RealID compliant identification.

We were talking about international travel, not going to the store or whatever. People mean international mostly when they say travel (maybe not americans, again, proving the point that you feel Chicago is travel.)
Also there ARE places in the US where passports are required or effectively required, like southern Texas and Puerto Rico.

There is a strong move towards requiring "documents" inside of the US. It's always been illegal before, but they are overlooking those laws or working around them by doing things like claiming the whole country is a border zone not covered by the constitution.

Yes, the TSA will be unable to accept non-RealID compliant identification.
They have automated scanners as it is. They already run it through a computer. Making the TSA enforce the new requirement won't even require training, it's literally the developer flipping a bit to turn it on.

It's still travel. . . moving from NY to Texas is travel. Because you are completely relocating to a new location in the world.

I haven't seen that be the case much. Most places I've flown to (SF, Omaha, Austing) didn't scan my DL, they just put it under the light to see the watermark. There was one airport I went through where they slid my card through a CC like reader, but only one.
I'm sure that's changing though.

I'm not saying that domestic travel isn't valid, just that to most of the world when you say "I like to travel" they assume you mean international. Not "I drive nearby on the weekend."
In Panama, for example, traveling to a different region to go to the beach is not considered travel, it's just what you do on weekends. In America, going to Florida for the weekend is considered a travel activity. Same thing, different viewpoints of the same activity.

They'd say "I'm taking a walk" or "I'm moving to Texas"
