Ads for 3rd party stuff in Win10 1803...

How else do you expect a little startup like Microsoft to make money?

Seriously wtf.
Just installed 1803 on a computer, hit start and there is this Dolby Access shit in the middle of the start menu. It is a store app that is an ad for Dolby Atmos headphones, yet looks like it is just a regular windows program in the Start Menu. But yea I'm seriously trying to get off of Windows for my daily driver at the office. There are only a handful of pieces of software I use, and Outlook doesn't need to be one of them. . .

It's a non-serious OS for non-serious users. To be expected.

Watch, next we'll start seeing marquee text ads scrolling across in CLI / PowerShell!

I'm surprised we haven't yet.

It will be a sad year 2020 when the last best Microsoft OS leaves us....

Only so sad because...
- It left us effectively long ago.
- It was never as good as non-Windows alternatives. Just seems good compared to more current Windows.

So you think Soda Crush Saga and ads all over the place are things you'd call "business ready"?

It shouldn't even be home ready either.

Well, when you buy the "business" version of Windows 10 (Win10 Enterprise), you can control that stuff easily.
Perhaps "Enterprise" version shouldn't include that stuff, but Home and Pro should. At least you can easily control it with Enterprise.

Needing to control is the same as having it there. That's like bloatware on non-business laptops. Yeah, you can "control" it, the need to control it is what lets you know it's intended as a toy.

And it kinda isn't. It's definitely designed to not be safe for home users, very hard to tell what's really there and what is an ad. I would say that Windows 10 has built in social engineering that makes it itself malware at this point.

I agree that the alternatives are superior, I've got many Linux servers running pbx's, nextcloud, hosting etc but unfortunately many businesses I support are still using bespoke windows applications that you just cannot get away from.

Which, in a way, makes those apps not business ready
-
@scottalanmiller I know, I Know, some people don't like change Scott, you can try and tell them to your blue in the face, and as for some app developers.....Say no more..

Wrong Answer.
Right Answer:
Of course I am serious. And don't call me Shirley. -
