What does cord cutting mean to you?

We "cut the cord" when we moved into our house. We've found that YouTube, netflix, and prime video give us everything we want. We only done $15/month right now... We'd have prime anyway so that doesn't count.

Never got the cord. Always found news to be manipulated. Stop watching at them. Found cultural stuff fading away from tv. Basically Ive found myself switching tv on only for searching for good movies. when I was ready, not when they were. Put the tv in the trashcan, started pay netflix.

Well to me cutrting the cord always implied getting away from the cable companies and their way of doing things. It is not necessarily cheaper but you at least have more choice in what you want to watch and pay for. Is it better? That is going to depend on your viewing habits I suppose.

You start by listing all the shows you currently watch. Then you can research what services you are going to use to watch the shows without cable. The main thing I noticed when I cut the cord is you start watching less TV and the mindless shows I used to watch when I had cable, get dropped out of my life. I now have more time to do something more important. I can't tell you how much time I used to waste watching Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and crap shows on HGTV for example. I look back and think what horrible shows and time sucks. When cutting the cord you have to have a balance of use for non-tech savvy and tech savvy to get the content you want for all family members. I've got a Tivo Roamio OTA (lifetime subscription) which makes it an awesome experience for the tech savvy and non tech savvy to watch OTA TV, YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. I've also got a Roku that is a filler some things that the Tivo Roamio doesn't have such as the ESPN app for live sports. If you have a friend / family member that hasn't given up cable yet, you try talking them into giving you a Email account to use that will give you access to more cable channels that you can stream (which I did) that fill in for everything else. If you don't want to mooch off friends / family for a cable login, then look into the services you listed. I can tell you that after cutting the cord, my main source of TV comes from YouTube Red. Whatever shows we watch that are on network TV, the Tivo records for me. There are only a handful of shows that I are on cable that I specifically seek out now (mainly HBO shows). With access to a friend’s Xfinity login, it's the filler to stream those specific shows. I think once you start listing all the shows you currently watch, you are going to realize you will not actually seek out those shows to watch once you cut the cord. You now have extra time, and more money in your wallet.

My dad has a big antenna on his roof and a DVR that records off it he found at the local electronics store.
When he showed my teenagers this it was blowing their mind all dad. Free TV? From the Clouds?
Is that cord cutting?

What I have done the following:
- Phone Moved to Google Voice
- Cable Replaced by Netflix and Amazon Video. If I want to see any shows I just go to their website.
- Internet Speed Upgraded to 300 ove r 300

We have cell phones and internet, Netflix and Amazon Prime. The little we are able to use any of them, they are more than enough. If anything else, Kodi works nicely too. Honestly we could get by without Netflix, but it's nice to have their children's channel or whatever it's called.

So you watch only from your laptop/desktop? or you stream it via chromecast? Yeah no thanks, I want it on my be screen and I really dislike chromecast - real f'n remote please!!!!

Chromebit goes directly on your TV.

I don't get it. you have to be connected in some way - who cares what that way is.. Now if you were saying you had anywhere access, then you'd be getting somewhere, but that's not what we are getting either, not entirely at least.

@dashrender No, I can do this but I have also two Vizio 4k compatible TVs with Chromecast and other services that comes with it. I can change to whatever I want from there.

But that's not Kodi. There are loads of things you shouldn't install on Windows too, but that doesn't make Windows itself illegal.

@scottalanmiller Correct, it is noted that is a plugin outside of Kodi and that is not part of it. So yeah you can use Kodi without any problem.

Kodi is great and nothing about it is illegal. It's like a software Roku times 1000 that you can put on almost any device.
Lots of good free legal stuff for it. I never mentioned any illegal intentions.
Lots of illegal stuff too, but same applies to anything.

Thanks for the clarification. Kodi it just a player.. i haven't dug into it enough to know the Exodus packages it the illegal part.

For me it's stop using SKY so instead of paying them £50/month we now only watch FREE to AIR TV Via a freesat type box.
For those that have mentioned Kodi, as @scottalanmiller and other mentioned Kodi itself is a Media Player, but there are many addons that will stream premium content that you're meant to pay for. BUT I believe there are some that will stream the free stuff to. I'm looking at this currently, one to have everything in one "box" as I use a Android box with Kodi to stream my content I have bought, but would also like it to watch live TV. two to get rid of obsolete boxes on the unit and to save power.
