Sodium: Apply Updates
-
Discussion came up today about applying updates to servers via Sodium. Awesome - this will be great. I won't have to do (x) a bunch of times. So here we have Sodium applying the updates available for system x - Server 2012 r2,.. and the little blue dots just 'whirling' away happily. Awesome Applied But now what - it still needs a reboot - So once the update is complete, what is happens next? Am I to wait for a clock to cycle before it will reboot on its own, or do I need to step in? I have to add that I have ten - fifteen systems I am running updates on, across two Hyper-V Hosts. My normal is to updates and shut down, update and restart the host. How long do I wait, or do I just move forward with a reboot?
-
Another point.. so on Server 2 I've cycled through to start the updates (above) Next server applied and clicked on server 2 again,.. and no happy little blue dots. So - no 'history' that the updates are being applied. so I could likely if not being mindful - apply updates again.

@gjacobse they shouldn't have been in the list after having them be applied, obviously there is a bug. I'm going to have to look into this first thing tomorrow. As for updates that need a restart obviously at the time I did not want to auto restart any servers or anything like that. I will implement an option for us to restart the server for you if you confirm that you want that but at the point that these updates were at I was not implementing any restart functionality yet simply because this was early on work. (avoiding doing anything that isn't prompted by the user); You shouldn't see those in the list though after them having completed updating so I have work to look into. Until said point I may briefly take updates offline. Potentially.

@quixoticjeremy Adding an indicator that a restart is needed would be nice.

One thing I noticed (not sure if it was mentioned somewhere), the patch names don't show up. At least for my Fedora system.

Yeah, lots of cleaning up needed for the patch system. It is early and mostly works, but leaves a lot to be desired yet We are working on a design for a patching dashboard that will give a lot more power specifically around patching.

Exactly, not a lot going to be fixed up on the way it looks currently when a lot of work is going to be going into this in the near future to give a lot more functionality.
