Right now there is no advertisement at all. I am purely allowing them to use the community to get their testing done. Let's just say I have a vested personal interest in them getting off the ground.
They are not tied to ML in any tangible way other than posting on the community.
That I don't see as an issue at all, at the same time I see what @IRJ is getting at. It's as if you're reading an article and then all of a sudden you're reading an ad without knowing it.
It can be irritating, but to the same effect they can simply be ignored or read etc.

Well I already knew that @scottalanmiller was/is an investor in Sodium, sounds like Danielle just admitted she is as well.
And these things are fine.
The alpha nature of this product definitely make it have a lot of chatter as bugs and feature requests are made.
As for revenue generation - what I've been told is the Sodium website will have ads on it, and perhaps generalized data about the machines that data is being collected from will be sold, but the second part is a current unknown.
Frankly, this sounds like the next generation of that other company where most of us found each other.

Nope not at this point. I hope they will hire GS to help them with Marketing stuff when ready though

Are we the official forum for the product now? It seems everyone on here is putting alot of time in testing the product.
It is cool to see people helping test this product and all, but there isn't alot of information about the plans of the product once it is ready for production.Is this helpdesk officially backed by ML?

What datacenter is being used for hosting?
What is the background of the company? Is there other software this company has made or is this the first attempt?
Maybe all these questions have already been answered, and maybe I missed them. However it seems like some of them are important since I am seeing alot of people on here spend alot of time with it.

ML is where we have been talking about this and involving the community so that when we have a finished product it actually is something that people will want to use. This is really what it comes down to, we don't want to waste our time creating a product that eventually no one uses.

The pricing model is that it's free (we are looking to monetize eventually through ads). There also might be specific features later down the road that might be so in depth that it will cost money. This is not my area though so I do not want to give false information in regards to what may cost money eventually. My guess would be for example, on-prem solutions would eventually cost money. Again this note has a major disclaimer of not being my area.

All engineers have working on this project have/ potentially even still do work elsewhere on other projects (I work in the Telecom sector while doing this project for example). This will be the first project with Quixotic specifically that this team has taken on though.

Edit: I figured it out. For anyone interested, go into that forum category and the "unwatch" it.

Go here https://mangolassi.it/category/25/sodium and change the category to Ignoring.

Of course it means you wouldn't be able to contribute to the development of the Sodium platform. If that is something you're interested in.
I also assume it means only topics posted in that category would be ignored.

I think it actually hurts SEO because if you search sodium helpdesk on google you see only issues or feature requests on this page. There is no actual company website that shows up.

I actually haven't been posting too much in terms of creating threads. I have been getting a massive amounts of threads from other users though. Which was the ultimate goal of getting the advice everyone here. I really only create threads upon major updates/releases. Like the helpdesk initial creation. If you go to the actual category the majority of the threads created are other users opening feature requests etc.

Nope sorry, our goal is to actually be useful and actually listen to feature requests people want. Which you can see them being implemented daily. Just trying to create something that will actually be useful to IT admins.

Ads and sponsored products aren't a bad thing. Maybe this is the solution that many SMBs will be able to implement, and can fill gaps SW left behind.
I think it is important to differentiate between content and sponsored content. The great thing about ML vs SW is the fact that we are group of professionals that challenge each other everyday. I value alot of people's opinions on here. You can lose that when you are being pushed sponsored or paid content without that sponsored or paid content being noted. Because if you don't mark that type of material, when you go to recommend any solution you lose credibility. Because people are always going to think you have a special interest.
If we can mark the material as sponsored, I think that would be a huge step.

Well to be fair: Sodium is not a sponsor, a vendor or an advertiser.
Yes I am allowing them to have a category but at this point they are a group of developers trying to make a product that will hopefully be of use to those here. So while they aren't playing exactly they aren't really any of the above designations either.
Suggestions on how you think I should classify them?

I think his point is that sometimes where you log in, a majority of the threads are sodium related. It just looks ... odd.

I don't follow users. Are you saying that when you follow someone their new posts are marked as notifications? Certainly not going to follow anyone if that is the case.

I don't follow users. Are you saying that when you follow someone their new posts are marked as notifications? Certainly not going to follow anyone if that is the case.
It does, yeah. I don't use it either, but it is one way to see what people are posting about. If you go into their profile and click the + button, it turns into a heart (yeah, that's a little weird) and you get updates on what they post.
