For those wondering, SS project is on hold. Kind of. It's still talked about all the time but other software projects, with more pressing needs, have come up. We have a team working actively on the back end of SS, but the front end, which is the most interesting, we have to start over and it's going to be a long time before we can look at the front end again. But we are continuing to research and prepare for the day when we can focus on it again.

Any update on this, just thought about it and wanted to see where this project is at.

Sadly, nothing for the foreseeable future.

I totally get why people would want open source and self hosted RMM options. But you can determine how much of a serious market there is for that by looking to see how many offers for funding there are.

Everyone asks for it, but no one has come forward offering to fund such an endeavor. To an open source project, that pretty much shows that there isn't any serious interest.

Yeah, we are mulling over how we want to handle the situation. We are considering splitting the scanning off to its own servers that will run at a different version than the main application. Or just waiting on SaltStack to get their patch out so that they can match on version again.

Check now, should be all good.

      Looks good now.

      Sweet 🙂

Although, none of my machines have checked in since May 30.

Yeah, I have a thread about that. That's not Sodium proper, it's the underlying SaltMaster isn't working. They've got a bug in the 1803 release that is causing issues.

Ah, okay. That is a new combination. So Debian 9 on there is different than "normal" Debian 9. Might be a repo issue.

It is checking in so not sure what the deal was.

Oh sure, the one thing that actually works, fails on the way to doing it. lol

We are accepting no more users with Linode or Mac at this time 😉

      Hey! I resemble that remark.

The upside is, you know how to find every possible installer problem 😉

I just need to go through 5 days of chat conversation with you

      Haha, yeah.

That feature was actually in an earlier release, but was pulled back for testing. I'm very hopeful that it comes back very soon.

I'm sure this is a silly question but how do I find the IDs? These are Windows boxes.

I just realized that there is no reliable way to do so. Look under the FQDN, sometimes it gets put there (a bug on the list to be fixed.)

So one things we've discovered is that Linode's Debian 9 systems have remove UUIDGEN from them, for some reason. How annoying.

It's because of the piping. There are ways, but not with the simple commands.

Is there a rogue service attempting to use this user account? Is the profile being locked (AD style) or just the password is being expired and having to be reset every time they login?

It tells her the password is wrong, and she has to go through the password reset routine each time she logs in. It's a user created within SodiumSuite.

Ah - Make sure the Organization is in all CAPS, user lower, password as typed

Bother, she just left for the day. I'll double check with her tomorrow on that.

      lol,..

Well, leaving early I assume 🙂

Leaving on time for me... in about 3 minutes, lol. Has been a busy day around here today!

@tim_g said in Feature Question: Salt interface:

I am guessing this will eventually interface with the asset's CLI whether it's cmd.exe or PowerShell on Windows, or shell on Linux.

My question is, will there be an interface to issue Salt commands to Minions as if you were on the Master? This would be handy, rather than having to go to each Asset to issue a Salt command.

I've been doing some design in my head all evening and I think that this might be doable. Going to try to talk to Jeremy about it this afternoon and see what he thinks.

That would be huge I think.

If I want to manage a fleet with Salt, but also want SodiumSuite, I think I'd have to choose one or the other... but SodiumSuite allowing the ability on that end as well would be great.

I wouldn't have install a Salt master, and if SodiumSuite allows for some kind of State management backend like GitLab, we'd not need SaltStack Enterprise, or a number of other paid options.

You know what I mean? Im on my phone and can't take the Time to get it all out eight now.

I agree, I think that it would, too.

It was over many hours yesterday. I rebooted and verified the service was running. I also allowed the port to be open.

I'll check later today to see if it still isn't showing up on the dashboard.

No port is needed inbound, outbound only.

Ya outbound is open by default on Windows.

Right, by default, nothing needs to be done for ports.
