Yeah, I mean I don't see this becoming main stream storage or anything. I honestly wouldn't use it for anything but "replaceables" software installers, etc.

For me, this is a replacement to a local NAS at clients. Said NAS would be the primary local backup target. More storage for the same cost, only used hit and miss during the day, and long writes in the evening.

That is really the primary use case. A local NAS for the desktop users in a local office space.

I think if they offered their product with some kind of backup to a cloud target it would be a little better. But I agree it is worth a shot for backup targets, etc.

I found it interesting that they were not trying to be a Cloud Backup solution. hell they are not even trying to be a backup solution. They are simply making a use for unused space.

There is a plethora of choice when it comes to cloud data storage. I think this may be a smarter move to skip it. Maybe a partnership for a sync to offsite kinda thing would work for them.

I could see them partnering with Box or Dropbox as a beneficial partnership.

Why are you going to the cloud with this solution if not for a backup?

I can't remember who, but someone here in ML thinks of ODfB as a 'backup.' But Scott definitely put it more accurately - they are a sync solution that backs up, but they are not a backup.

In the same token, For what you would use this technology for, you probably need a real backup more than a sync solution.

I think that you can use any existing backup mechanism with it.

Definitely the more important association needed. I can't even think of how this would usefully work with a sync solution.

What is your goal? I think we are struggling to picture the use case that you are picturing. If you have cloud storage, how are you using Aetherstore? And vice versa?
