Here is a horrible Google Satellite view of the house that is clearly taken before we bought the place, so is from pre-2011 at least.

Here is the most recent picture of the backyard in Carrollton. This was taken around January when the snow was on the ground.

Why not enclose that porch area as your office. You can put in huge picture windows. I see a lot of fencing. Which I understand is for privacy, if the fencing is yours have you thought about doing a nice tall hedge instead? I am doing a Privet hedge at my house instead of fence. They can get up to 8' tall. I like looking at a hedge more than a fence. Plus it is cheaper.

That porch is directly off of the living room and the main entrance to the outdoors. If we turned that into the office, my office would be part of the dining room on one side and part of the living room on the other and be non-stop foot traffic of people heading outside.

And coming back in, and going back out, and coming back in....

Yeah. And I want the office to really feel isolated from the house, not like I'm sitting in the living room, which is nearly where my office is now. The current office is on the far side of the dining room.

@wirestyle22 I like the industrial look as well. I think you could look at some pre-built sheds and then convert it into the office you want, that would make it easy on you as the base structure would be done once it is in place at your house then all you have to do is decorate it to your tastes. On the outside/inside you could easily add 8 ft Corrugated Galvanized Steel to give it an industrial look For me I would look at one that had a garage door, then put in a windowed clear glass garage door. You can get screens that could come down for the rare occasions the weather is cool enough in Texas. 8 ft. Corrugated Galvanized Steel sheets are extremely cheap and you can put them right onto the side of the shed, inside or out as well. On one of the interior walls you could use a faux brick panel to give the interior an accent wall, http://www.homedepot.com/b/Building-Materials-Siding-Stone-Veneer-Faux-Stone/N-5yc1vZc9sr.
I like this desk myself for the interior. alt text

The garage door and driveway are hidden away beyond the fence so are never seen with any other part of the house. It's rear alley access for the garage. So it is a bizarre thing where the garage makes you feel like you are in a totally different place than the house itself. There isn't even a normal door out of the garage, to get there from any other way you have to exit the far side of the house, cross the backyard and go out through a gate there.

@PenguinWrangler Uck. I hear "Modern" used in styling/design and all I hear is "No storage space". I need to hide my junk!

We would like that. Have to totally rebuild the kitchen first, though.

Yep. I really like the look of polished concrete. Although I would hardly call that industrial often it just looks like a marble or granite counter top.

Idk if I would do something extremely industrial for the countertop unless I discovered some awesome idea somewhere. Any ideas? 😄

I just spent 3 weeks clearing all the fucking scrub from my backyard. I gained over 10 foot of yard in some places.

Not that I cared much about the yard depth. Mostly I was noting this as a reason the hedges suck donkey balls.
