ZeroTier Performance?

You can build the latest xrdp stuff yourself. It's not terribly bad. What is Kali based on? Ubuntu?

VNC is working fine over zerotier. I wasn't sure if something wasn't configured right for nomachine, but it seems like by nature it is slow?
I've used NoMachine over ZeroTier to connect to Windows machines (and some Linux) and it's been fine.

It doesn't work with Gnome 3 though. You would need to use just the published applications instead of the full desktop.

I am not against paying for a reliable remote desktop solution. Teamviewer works flawlessly, but I am looking for something that isn't $849 for one license if possible.
Is it a VM or a physical box?

Or change desktops. We use LXDE for that. XFCE works fine, too.

If it's a VM running on either KVM or Xen, I normally use SPICE through either Remmina or the normal remote desktop application. I just make a tunnel and connect to whatever SPICE port (eg 5903).

The terminal will be used for most functions. Tools like nmap can have issues when using the GUI so they need to be run from a terminal. Running scans without a GUI is much quicker.
There are a some applications in Kali that have no command line options (mostly newer tools).
Tools like nomachine and TeamViewer create a new display so the vm is locked to the customer.

So you are talking about end user support here?
I really like ScreenConnect - and no VPN required.

So after taking forever to get a GUI on a Fedora 25 Droplet I finally got NoMachine running over ZeroTier. I didn't notice any bad lag. It was a 2 CPU 4GB droplet with the default NoMachine settings.
I do remember I had a Kali VM on my KVM server. No matter what I did with it, the performance was terrible, even through SPICE.

That's interesting. We see horrendous lag from X2Go via Mint. Maybe it is the Ubuntu base, we've not tested with Fedora. I wonder if that alone would make a difference?

Ya I don't have any Ununtu based systems with a GUI. I had that Kali system and gave it 4 CPUs and either 8 or 16 GB of RAM and it was still laggy virtualized (didn't try it physical).
But I've never had any issues with NoMachine or X2Go with a RHEL based system. I've also managed client sites with NoMachine on Windows and not had any issues.
