At this point it's looking like the Android phones to look at are

      LG
      Google Phone

      That is all.

I had an LG phone and really enjoyed it. I have a Motorola phone right now but they were purchased by Lenovo so not sure I would get one again.

Dang, that's right. That leaves a long list of....
      Google
      to get Android phones from.

Well, HTC is making the Google Pixel, so who knows if they will put out their own HTC branded phone or not? I suppose they could become a player in the US market again.

There are rumors that Samsung didn't actually replace/fix the batteries, instead that perhaps they only did a software update that limited the charge to 80% capacity.

This doesn't explain the phone burning up on the airplane. Supposedly it wasn't being charged or even used. It was in the user's pocket, getting hot, he pulled it out of his pocket and tossed it on the floor and it burned the carpet as well.

Definitely bad news for Samsung - How do you trust any Samsung phone now?

Sadly...I turned mine off for good. I have a Pixel XL on order. Currently using a Moto G4 until the Pixel arrives.

I have been offered to use and have an iPhone 7+ 256GB model as my daily driver but I just can't go iOS. It purely a preference than an prejudice. Plus, I like having file access upon plugging it in via USB. I don't like the whole iTunes Sync thing. I know I can copy photos from the phone to my PC for my main photo storage but can't simply delete from the file system.

It is most certainly blind prejudice then because what you say you cannot do works
                              perfectly.

At the moment. I have an iPhone6 Connected right now it doesn't even show up in File Explorer but iTunes sees it.

Driver issue. I have come across that a few times since changing to Windows 10.
You have to go into device manager and change the driver and then windows will see it like it is supposed to but then iTunes will not be able to see it.

This was never a problem for me on Windows 7 and 8.

Yeah, you have to put the iPhone into a special mode to do what JB is talking about. it's not a default behavior. And, as he said, once you do that, iTunes loses access to those files. It's just Apple's heavy handed way to really make you just do it their way. Which for the masses is great, offers them less chances to screw things up. Just really wish there was a check box for - *yes I know by enabling this that Apple is not responsible for anything i do to the phone and I might be required to reformat the phone to factory OS to solve problems I cause"

I heard today that Apple has taken this approach with their backups and brought it to the Mac now too, the 'other files' thing that you can't just access and cleanup, you to use another utilities to break into it.

No you do not have to put your phone in any special mode, and it is the default behavior. It simply works assuming the right drivers are loaded. Prior to Windows 10 the drivers allowed both for me.
