It has got me thinking about going back to OneNote for family To Do Lists..

You realize that OneNote runs locally and syncs to Azure? Possibly if you have no Office 365 subscription there is some limit on this, but none that I am aware of.

You realize that OneNote runs locally and syncs to Azure? Possibly if you have no Office 365 subscription there is some limit on this, but none that I am aware of.
Yeah and I've synced OneNote for several years with my wife's OneNote...we needed something a little more task focused and decided to try Wunderlist...ooops...

OneNote works with Microsoft accounts. Anyone with a hotmail account or Outlook.com account can use OneNote. It is not tied to any paid subscription service at all.
The desktop app saves local files always. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Wrong. The desktop app will not allow you to save locally unless you have a subscription.

Then you are using the Office 2016 app and not the built in OneNote app.

OneNote is included and free on Windows 10. I believe it was on Windows 8 also.

A cloud based task collaboration suite, like ToDoList and to a lessor extent, Evernote. Microsoft purchased them a few years ago...I'm thinking they've not moved over to Azure yet. Not that Azure doesn't go down but still...this is closing in on 36 hours now...

Wow, that is a long time for something to be down!
To their credit, they have been very good at communicating but it sounds like a pretty major issue:

Monitoring - Wunderlist is slowly coming back online. Sign-In and Sign-Up work again. Synchronization is happening between devices, but still not at 100%. We are now monitoring the database performance and server load, while the system is slowly recovering. Thank you for bearing with us and apologies for the hassle the downtime might have caused you. We'll post another update shortly.

uh.. no, I think it might sync to Azure, but doesn't require it.

Yeah, even know we consumers aren't in on those meetings, I would like to know what happened...while not as high profile as some apps, 36 hours downtime is terrible for any service...
