Just saw this project. Which managed to miss the first point in their list with a single VRTX.

Wow. Blades, a VRTX and an Inverted Pyramid of Doom while buying VMware Essentials Plus for a system that doesn't scale correctly with that. How many mistakes can one company make in a single project?

AND he calls it both HA and HC, both of which it is exactly not. He couldn't be further from either. This is what passes as IT in non-profits these days.

And, of course, this means that he never read Spiceworks or MangoLassi AND never posted his idea because all of these mistakes would have been pointed out before he screwed the company that he worked for. How arrogant to post something so ridiculous as a project to be proud of in a community where that very design is constantly pointed out as being absolutely horrible day after day. He thinks posting to SW for praise is a good idea but isn't willing to post for advice or vetting of ideas? Ridiculous.

@scottalanmiller His other project was putting an IoT coffee pot on their critical infrastructure (his words) network. I doubt this is a very savvy IT department.

@scottalanmiller I should post the 2-node setup I just configured with 15TB of storage. I bet my 16k price was half of that purchase price and will out perform that setup.

Could you post some details in a dedicated thread? I'm looking for something very similar (2 nodes, mirrored storage like StarWind Virtual San etc).

For two nodes you use DRBD, which is baked into XenServer!

Just hard stopped a VM with software from a project partner. Written in Java, all kinds of fancy frameworks involved and to what result? 100% CPU load, 100% RAM usage, so really bad system load, swapping to dead, loads of processes spawning, unresponsive shell, ...

Said that before, I am myself way more a developer than an admin... and I hate that: People are using all sorts of frameworks and APIs without thinking about consequences or side effects. I'm sure they will have a very hard time to debug that. But at least it's fancy and written in Java...
