Could be a cool case to use Raspberry Pi or something else interesting depending on the desired use case.

Yes it could be. And yes I have thought the same. At some point I will get a Pi and it'll sit with the Sony Theater system I have ... I needs tunes.

If you're lacking IOPS, why keep the only parts that are really holding you back?

Get a cheap ssd and write out to the FeO3 with high angular velocity.

Exactly - How do you know IOPs are your issue?

Gotta love spell chekc. Disk speed isn't the issue... It's an old desktop - Optiplex 330.

It appears that this old Dell Optiplex desktop just can't muster enough IOPS to run Linux in a manner which I need.

What can't it muster enough of? if not IOPs?

In any case, what were you looking for specs wise? You are not using it for much by the looks of it.

I'd say maybe a last generation core i3, 8gb ram?? Something there abouts.

This won't be a gaming system, nor an 'office' system.

CPU: Intel Pentium G3240 Dual Core Desktop Processor - 3.10 GHz, Socket H3 LGA-1150, 3MB Smart Cache

                            MOBO: Asus H81M-E Micro-ATX Motherboard - 1600MHz DDR3, 8-Channel HD Audio, USB 3.0, Gigabit LAN

                            Case: (searching)

@gjacobse Looks like a good choice of CPU, but maybe get a mobo with 4 ram slots? Cheaper upgrade later. 8GB seems to be the sweet spot right now.
