There is no panacea. We all get SPAM all of the time. The trick that they use is that they offer you something that you want (like a high paid senior job in the US) that is too good to be true. But you want it to be true so much that you are tempted to ignore the obvious signs that it couldn't possibly be real (you didn't apply for the job, that's the wrong pay scale for entry level helpdesk, you aren't qualified to work in nuclear energy, they asked for private data before even knowing if you were interested or a real person, you never interviewed, their website doesn't exist, the details they provide don't match the info of the person who contacted you, they didn't talk about visa hassles, etc.) Because of this the logic of the brain shuts down. That's why it is important to look for the signs and delete it before you get sucked in to the tricks.

Like the emails I get that say "You can have any woman you like." I'd love to believe it, but it's obviously spam because I'm hideous and overweight.

Read the entire thread before you send personal info off to an obviously fake company. If they have your information that you handed over willingly, not much you can do.

In the future, research and critical thinking skills will help prevent this.

Welcome to the MangoLassi community! Great to see a new face.

Do not send these people any information, this is an identity scam attempting to get your personal information to sell it. This is not a legitimate job. Read the whole thread, there is a lot of good information about ways to have identified this spam to know how to protect yourself in the future.

Yes you are. If there are credit agencies you can reach out to, I would do so and have scam alerts put on your accounts.

He's probably off the computer now - in another thread he mentioned that he had to go to the store.

You should contact your credit agencies and put blocks in place on opening new lines of credit. This is about all you can do.

Perhaps you can call your local government office, the prosecutors office. They might know what you can do to try to protect yourself.

As we've found in the states though, often times there is little you can do.
