I'm very inconsistent, I'll moan at a TV program where a talking dog is breaking into NASA's mainframe in order to destroy some aliens by guessing the password and I'll be yelling at the TV "Oh yeah, like NASA would use weak passwords. That's so lame" and my wife will turn to me and say "Oh, so you have no problems with talking dogs attacking aliens then? That bit's realistic for you?".
The thing that I have it "internal consistency." I'm fine with Superman, as long as the movie is completely consistent about how that happens in the fictional world. I'm fine with physics being bent, as long as they are bent consistently. I have no problem with requiring the suspension of disbelief. What I can't handle is when I care more about the fictional world than the people who made it and I can see where they were lazy or confused about their own fictional world and they are breaking their own, fictional laws that they have defined.
